I get loads of frogs in my garden & I dont even have a pond. Last year I couldnt understand why I didnt get any strawberries off my plants as they had all flowered loads. Then I found out that frogs eat strawberries  will be keeping the strawberry plants covered in net this year.

My wheelie bin went walk about once too dannahaz - I was convinced it was one of my neighbours but nobody owned up to it  I had reported it stolen to the council and they were sending out a new one when it mysteriously re appeared  after that I painted my number on and I did it in the front garden so everybody could see what I was doing :rotfl:

Amie, when you say "deal with", hope you don't mean kill:eek:.

Frogs are really benficial to the garden - they eat slugs and things, so are actually a really good thing to have around. Next timne you see one, think of Kermit or his nephew Robin and try not to be too scared. You don't have to get to the stage where you can pick them up, but try not to panic.

I managed to overcome my fear of them. I still can't pick them up - which ( s probably a good thing, as it's not good for them to be mauled by us - but I think they are fascinating now. Especially the little ones.

    Morning everybody,

Amie, frogs though ugly are, as Dannahaz says, very useful creatures in your garden, very seldom see any here, our cat has terrorised all wildlife except for slugs, snails and birds, thank goodness he can't fly!

Overcast here, warm enough so maybe we will escape the rain, DW emptied and visitors fed ( tbh they fed themselves) and just had a phone message from a second cousin born in Rhodesia who now lives in Manchester area...will call her back in a bit.

Nothing planned for to-day, just a catch up with the aussies, have no definite plans, maybe just a ramble through some of the older graveyards to see if we can find any more family tree bits.

    Have a lovely weekend

    Hi everyone!
Don't seem to have got on here as much as I would have liked this week but it's been all systems go getting OH ready for a 3 day dollshouse show in London that he's started today. Toes crossed that he sells some and gets some orders. Shall be up there tomorrow helping him.
OS has all been rather rushed this week as trying to shoe horn 5 days into 4. However have changed the linen and towels and hung out a dark load. For the first time in 6 months I shall be doing the school run so must remember to leave at 3pm and then the small person have the joy of our 6 monthly checkup with the dentist.
Has been a good week on the freecycle front as someone has very kindly donated a new monitor as ours was flickering ominously. Have also got a taker for one of the items I listed. My sister [she of the new flat and freecycled contents fame] let me know that one of our local charity shops had a sale yesterday...result one dead chuffed small person with a new Dennis the Menace video for the princely sum of 15p:j
After Saturday's trip I shall be at home Sunday. The small person and I will be making my Dad a birthday cake and I am also very tempted by the low fat snack recipes on the thread from here [thanks for those] No doubt there will also be the usual ironing and other domestic bits to be caught up on.
    Have a groovy weekend

Hi – just go caught in the pouring rain just as I left the farm shop with a heavy bag of fruit and veg! I didn’t park in the nearest car park because it’s behind the local Sainsbury’s and is always packed out, so it was a long walk. I was carrying too much to be able to handle the umbrella and didn’t want to take shelter because it looked like a long shower. Anyway, I made it home with lots of goodies from the farm shop.
SCUZZ – congrats on the new job. Sounds brilliant! Good luck with it!
MUSHYPEAS – I really enjoy ‘How to look Good Naked – he really works magic on someone’s confidence, doesn’t he? You were right to treat yourself to some goodies – I don’t think we OSers do that often enough!
TAPLADY and AMIE – I hate toads because they’re so ugly but I think frogs are lovely! We have loads in our pond and, about six weeks ago, there must have been at least thirty pairs having a mass sex-orgy resulting in hundreds of tadpoles. DANNA’s right – think of Kermit – he’s cute! Mind you, I can understand you being frightened of them; I feel the same about may bugs and, because it’s May now, I won’t go out in the garden when it’s dusk because that’s when they’re active. We all fear something, don’t we?
DANNA – so glad the cat is coping better. I told my DH about it because he loves cats and his theory was that he probably thought it was a giant bird of prey about to attack!
BOBBADOG – hope things are better after your row. By the way, I’m just curious – what is AQA?
CATZNINE – if you get another chance to post, glad your trip is going so well!
PATENTGIRL – the Yoghurt Cake is ARKONITE-BABE’S recipe which I found ages ago on another thread and I make two of them twice a week because they’re so good. You need a carton of yoghurt – whatever flavour you like – and, once you’ve put the contents in the mixing bowl, you use the same carton to measure out the other ingredients. This is the way I make it:

    YOGHURT CAKE

    I carton yoghurt
1 carton vegetable oil (I use sunflower oil because it’s low in cholesterol)
    2 cartons SR flour
    1-and-a-half cartons sugar
    Three eggs

Mix all the ingredients together well, pour into lined cake tin – I use oblong baking trays so it’s easy to cut into squares) and bake at 190C/375F/Gas 5 for about 40 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.

With all the different flavours of yoghurt, you can make each one different!

You can vary the recipe e.g. use natural yoghurt and add cinnamon, nutmeg and sultanas or add choc chips and two tablespoons of cocoa powder, or anything that takes your fancy! I’ve found it keeps really well – if you don’t eat it all on the day you make it! I’m just about to make a batch for the weekend!
Well, I should pack my fruit and veg away, make my cakes while I have my sandwich and then I’m going to list some more things on eBay and some books on Amazon. All three of my eBay buyers have paid up so that’s given me the incentive to list stuff twice a week – four at a time I can cope with until I become as good as CRAZYCHIK!
The rain has stopped now but I think we’ll get some more before dinner time! Will catch up with you all later.
