Hi
Can anybody please give me some advise?
I purchased a 65" Samsung LED 8000 Series Smart TV from Currys onlineon the 7th January this year. I paid £2,500.00 on my bank debit card for it
After having the TV for a couple of weeks, I noticed grey strips running vertically down the screen when the TV pans round, after researching the issue I discovered this is called banding and is present in some degree in all LCD/LED TV’s. Athough some are worse than others.
Banding normally shows up on green backgrounds when watching football for example however with my set its there on any background when the TV pans and looks really bad.
I called Currys on the 11th February who said they could not fix the problem because Samsung wont let them touch there TV's it has to be a Samsung engineer.I called Samsung who issued the job to a third party authorised TV repair firm called Visual FX.
The engineer turned up and said he could see the problem but that it was inherent to the TV and there was nothing he could do apart from report thei ssue to Samsung so they could log it.
I then called Samsung again and was told there was nothing they could do because the engineer had said it was within there tolerance levels (what ever they are)
I called Currys and they keep referring me back to Samsung I am going round in circles and stuck with a TV that cost me a fortune and is only a couple of months old that no one wants to take responsability for.
What shall I do next?
Thanks in advance.

Of course your "tolerance levels" may be very different from the manufacturers. It's difficult to see where you'll go from here, though...
I think you need to get an independent report from another engineer and, if he agrees you have a complaint, take it further that way.0 -
Very little more than you're already doing. You need to raise a complaint with Samsung by the looks of things. You could try emailing the CEO of currys to see if there is anything they can do if you feel you're being fobbed off by the lower ranks.0

Did you view the same model in the shop before purchasing online? If so, was the banding present then? That would indicate an inherent fault. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Yes, I viewed the model in store first and it was not present, it looked amazing in fact. I have since been back to check in store as I thought I may have missed it but the store one seems fine.
Having further researched it, it seems some sets are worse than others and I seem to have a particularly bad one.0 -
You bought it through currys so they need to sort it in my opinon. You need to take this further with them.0

You don't need to type so large.0 -
If it is ruining your viewing, and wasn't present in the showroom, then that is not "fit for purpose" in my book. Personally I wouldn't put up with banding and as the purchase was so recent you have quite a lot of rights.
Firstly, under the SOGA it is the responsibility of the seller to repair or replace a faulty item in the first 6 months. It is also their responsibility to prove it wasn't an inherent fault. There is no reason why you should be dealing with the manufacturer at this stage. Don't let Currys fob you off, whatever they say.
Useful info on the SOGA here, including stock letters, here:
http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/problem/what-do-i-do-if-i-have-a-faulty-product/
If you are really stuck, tell Curry's you will be calling in an independent engineer but if he agrees with you, you will expect them to foot his bill on top of dealing with your replacement.
Remember, early on you have more rights, so strike while the iron's hot.
edit: don't type in such a big font size!I don't want to achieve immortality through my work, I want to achieve it through not dying0 -
What source are you watching from? is it sky hd? is the cable in good condition? can you tweak the settings.. have you tried any games consoles \ blue ray player to see if its issue with the source.. I remember on mine tweaking a few of the settings down to make view experience better... so tv sets in the shop have a 'demo \ in store settings'..or have a demo clips on that have been tweaked to show in the best 'light'..0
