Food Shopping Has Gone Up Again!!!!

This is just ridiculus

I swear the cost of shopping is rising monthly if not weekly..

A weekly big shop from sainsburys has just cost us £150

last week it was £130, ok we had a birthday cake in there but all the rest just normal food no extravegance...

we are a family of 5, soon to be 6 as expecting a baby

I have not even thought about how much extra the baby will cost a week....

rent has gone up, fuel bills, utility bills everything seems to be rising insanely high..

anyone else feeling it??

  • Mine comes in at around £120 a week for 2 adults and a collection of moggies, and we're vegetarians! There isn't much you can do really, prices go up. I've given up driving and going out which is fine really, I have a lot of books to read.

But I am definitely glad I don't have kids.

    Prices are rising almost daily

However you can still eat well and cheaper if you scratch cook and meal plan

Get yourself over to the old style board. A lot of grocery challenges, recipes and inspiration

There's plenty on that board who feed large families for a lot lot less

Please tell us what you ate for breakfast lunch and dinner each day last week, (inc if it was home made from scratch, or prepared food)

me and the other half eat well, but make most things from scratch, and pan every meal for a week ont he night we go shopping and struggle to spend more than £40 a week which includes a bottle of wine and sweeties!

Martin, could you please do the same? :) I meal plan and cook frm scratch, but struggle to spend less than £50-£60 per week for two of us (and a German Shepherd). Today, I've spent £43, but have yet to get yogurt, and will probably need another 4pt of milk.

try shopping at other shops instead of sainsburys they do tend to be pricy - read through this site lots of tips for cutting costs and food budgets £15o for weekly shop even 130 is ott for a family of five - what supercrimpers on chanel 4 on demand and see how some families have been given £50 for a week and they do it

Same here. I see what's the best buy and plan around that. I can feed 3 adults for up to four days on one chicken by cooking from scratch and throwing nothing away

Today's soup was five well past their best carrots rescued from the bottom of the fridge with the stalks of the coriander I had used the leaves from last week in a curry

    Yes I can make savings...

Im just saying that we have not bought much more than we normally do and this week it cost £150

    naturally we cannot afford that...

most people that have commented on this thread are just a couple with pets and the spend between 40 - 60 quid..

we also have a big variety of eaters in our family

ones a teen, wifes a veggie, two children and soon a baby..

its not like we can go get a massive beef joint and eat stew all week..

if we were just a couple id eat sausages and beans all week and my wife pasta to save money..

we also have three cats and a dog

its not easy we are a big family in all.

just a few years ago we were only spending £70 - £80 on a big shop

my main point of this thread is HOW much prices are rising

I agree that prices have gone up a lot but I believe that the supermarket shopping is one area where most of us can cut back if you really want to or have to. I have recently switched from Tesco to Aldi and have saved about £10 a week doing this. My monthly spend is now £280 for four of us including two older kids. This includes all cleaning and laundry stuff and toiletries.

I learnt about meal planning on the old style boards and this has made a huge difference to how I shop, it makes life easier too.
