Ikea or Argos

what about the drawers? whilst i'm on the subject?
from the website the cheaper ones (i'm on a budget) have fibre board bases which in my argos drawers has bowed and dropped out.0

The cheaper Ikea furniture is much, much better than the cheap Argos furniture. Argos furniture is just so flimsy, and while is cheaper won't last at all - you have to spend a lot per item to get any quality from Argos, whereas Ikea have got the basics right0

basics is what we're after really and then later on when we have saved up a bit more money we can invest in some better quality stuff.0

            What items are you after?
Within the past couple of years, I've bought from Ikea...
Large Chest of Drawers Kullen £39 - well made, with deep drawers and metal runners
Double bed frame Rykene £85 - very cleverly designed to get to the price.
Large bookshelf Kilby £25 - excellent VFM, though the shelves could possibly be a little thin (to Ikea's credit, it does say "no heavy books" on the product details).
Lack Coffee tables £15 - excellent VFM, though the middle shelf is too thin.0

I second (third? forth?) the recs for Ikea over Argos. Aside from the quality issue, their flatpack furniture is just so much simpler to put up than flatpack from other shops. I recommend the Hemnesbookshelf, which is solid wood, but (I think) reasonably priced.NSD May 1/150

Def Ikea...! Much better quality, even for their basic ranges. Once they are built, they are very sturdy, unlike Argos, even their more expensive stuff is very bad.0

Argos furniture is largely rubbish. (Apologies if anyone is offended.)
Ikea stuff is much better quality than the Argos offerings.
Obviously nowhere the near the quality of solid wood stuff from posh shops but for what it is, it's decent.Herman - MP for all! 0 0

            1st priority items are:
2 tv stands (with space for dvd player, games console)
1 storage unit of some sort (drawers or shelves) not completely decided yet.
 1 bookcase
Depending on how well these items move they may need replacing:
 1 wardrobe
 2 bedside tables
2 chests of drawers (one of which is missing the base as its warped to badly, but it is serviceable for now).
Extra stuff non- urgent, basically once I've saved up some more money (pesky agents have taken most of it in fees!):
1 of those kitchen trolleys for veg etc
coffee table or similar for by the sofa
 1 desk0

I have a Billy bookcase from Ikea which I bought 24 years ago it has spent most of that time crammed with heavy books and although it no longer looks new its still in good condition.
I also bought a 3 drawer chest at the same time which has had much lighter use and is almost like new. I remember it cost me £13 at the time so definitely value for money.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140

 Couple of thoughts.
Firstly, look into whether you have a British Heart Foundation furniture shop (or similar) near you.
Secondly, on the subject of TV stands I found all the ones in IKEA seemed to be very low down, which was an issue for us as we have ayoung daughter who loves to climb. We wanted one which was about 60cm high (at least), and ended up getting the Marrakesh unit from Homebase, which I actually quite like.
I also couldn't see any nice bedside tables in Ikea either; they all seemed really boring.NSD May 1/150
