Random private message from a troll

Has anyone else had a random PM from an obvious troll?

I did and just wondering about anyone else. Ive reported it though.

Silly people obviously have nowt better to do with their time. Get. A. Life.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

For the record I did not meet my husband on a dating site. I actually have a life and dont need the internet to get my kicks unlike some people.

    Not as yet :-)

I presume it was the one that was active about 4 o'clock this morning in the Inn?

I reported the member so hopefully admin will do a clear up soon.
  • Ive just looked in the Inn and there's nothing there now so perhaps.

    Some sad people around.

  • It's good you can laugh about it Zombie.

Hopefully the Moron will find something useful to do with his/her time, rather than trying to upset people.

It makes me laugh when they nearly always seem to say something like 'get a life'. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

Love your attitude Zombie and glad it didn't get to you too much.

I wish MSE would find some way of dealing with these little truckers, so that they can't keep coming back under a new name. What do people think about suggesting email verification for new members? That way, at least they would have to also find a new email address for each new persona?

  • It was actually quite a nasty message really. Think Ive just been around internet forums too long and knew it wasn't someone being nasty to me, but more just trolling.

Unfortunately internet forums always attract trolls. The best thing is to ignore, report and laugh at them. I know by starting this thread I haven't exactly ignored, I was just curious if anyone else was PMd too. Its a bit strange it was me as I wouldn't exactly say I was a prolific poster. I haven't been in the inn for months and haven't posted a comp for ages (since the advents I think), but anyhoo at least it was me who could just brush it off and not someone who might have been affected by it.

I like this idea but it's also very easy to set up new e-mail accounts so I don't think it would put off someone who was determined to engage in this sort of behaviour.

Maybe it should be a rule that new members are not allowed to send PM's? (assuming that it is new members behaving this way?)

I think something needs to be done as it seems to be affecting a lot of people at the mo & putting them off posting wins etc...

I'm sorry to hear about your negative experience ZombieSlayer but pleased you are handling it so well! :) Sending lucky dust your way...

I'm sure you're right madbunnygal. If they take the trouble of setting up a new identity, they can easily set up a new email address too. Not sure about stopping new people from pm-ing as I wouldn't want the Trolls to 'win' and stop people using the site freely.

What if we asked for a Troll button - something perhaps that required say, three different members clicking, and when they click it brings up a window for them to confirm, so that it couldn't be done by mistake. Then once three members click the Troll button, that member is instantly suspended, until MSE have a chance to review - meaning they cannot post or pm. What do folks think?

  • This could work, as long as it couldn't be misused in anyway (ie members ganging up on someone they have a personal disliking to...)

Or maybe if MSE would just tie membership to IP addresses as some other forums do.
No more trolls & no more AEs,or at least a big reduction as they would have to have another connection to use.
