Tesco's anti English delicacy policy

I live in the east midlands and am unable to buy the justly famous North Staffordshire Oatcakes from my local store.
I am totally enraged that I could buy, Naan breads various, popadoms, tortilla wraps, pittas, crepes (whatever they are, probably French) but no oatcakes.
I am forced to drive over to Bidduph in Staffordshire when I wish to stock up with them.
I am thinking of writing to Tesco to get them to compensate me for the petrol.
PS If you are unenlightened about this delicacy there is some information here.

It is anti-English; it's just that there are so many minorities now that they outnumber the majority !
Example: A local Somerfield has 11 parking spaces for:- disabled, mother and child, scooters, etc, etc; AND 5 for everyone else.0 -
have you tried emailing or calling and asking them to stock your oatcakes?nothing to see here, move along...0

You might as well ask them for compensation for loss of time writing this post, stress, lack of energy after you've driven all that way....
Shops stock what they can sell - they're BUSINESSES. It's not their problem that noone wants to buy these oatcake things and they're certainly not going to stock them just in the name of patriotism!0 -
I've asked Tesco's and they tell me that they are stocked in Staffordshire branches as its considered a regional product. Someone from Stoke could confirm this.
What is needed is a few Staffs expats to complain as well. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

You could make them yourself.....but that would be too European wouldnt it!0 -
As has already been pointed out business stock what sells. Space is a perimum.
Heres an example. Say 1 meter of shelf space in a/your shop makes £100 a week. Someone might ask for the product you requested. They try it and pull the weakest line. Now the 1 meter only makes £50 a week. As a business owner what would you do now?
Bare in mind your £50 loss for that meter (say the average cost of an item was £1) means 50 lost sales, possibly 50 unhappy customers just to make 1 person happy.
If it sells to everyone, they'll probably sell it. They want to make money. If they end up doing the above and using space to stock a slower selling product they will actually have more unhappy customers.0 -
Space is definitely not a premium at our local store, they have a huge gondola full of Loyd Grosman sauces, nobody would miss them(or him).
Whats even worse they no longer stock Geetas mango chutney ( have to get it from Sainsburys) but that can wait. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Space is always a premium in retail! Having an entire end of one product will be supplier funded, thats where that money to justifiy it comes from.0

Penrhyn,
You should write a letter to the lead singer of U2, I think his name is Bonio or something. He could write a song about it and eventually everyone will know about that awful Tesco's food selling policy. You never know it could be as big as the Berlin wall coming down.0
