Dunno what the OP's problem is, he had a link to poveys, can order by post. Saves trip to tescos. We have some sent to my rellies who after tasting them when on a visit loved them. I've seen recipes for oakcakes too, but wouldnt dream of making them aparently all the oatcake makers have thier own 'special ingredients' so guess mine wouldnt be that great lol anyway, much nicer on a sunday morning to send OH down to local oatcake shop to get me a lovely cheese and bacon one.

I'm aware that this may involve ordering smaller quantities of each and that the unit cost to shop would probably increase, but only very slightly, and it's about the bigger picture that so many retailers miss.
It's not so much overlooked, more down to contracts and costs.
New lines often pay for space, so your stuck with what they've paid for untill the time is up. Many places have 'plangorams' This is wher suppliers pay to have their products in a certains spot with a certain amount of facings.
Many stores with particually high sales per square meter may require a shelf to have a sufficient amount of stock on it to say last a few hours before it's filled up again. This may aslo be due to difficulties filling during peak trading. So one product may need more facings to last. Having one facing of many lines will not achieve this. If product 'x' has 10% of the sales for 1 meter drop, it will need about 10% of the space. If you don't do that, it may well sell out. Being a fast selling line would then cause unhappy customers.
Filling more frequently might not be possible as I've mentioned above if the store is particually busy. Filling more often also costs more. You might wonder why? It's because actually putting stock (one product say) on the shelves is only about 1/3 of the work. It might just take 20 seconds to fill oat cakes! But it started by them having to be located in a storages area, brought out, put out, any empty boxes etc disposed of. So the extra filling would have an increased cost. Would it be worth it? Yes if it makes more profit, no if not.0 -

Hi Lin,
Long Eaton near Nottingham, where are you? ...and are they North Staffordshire Oatcakes?
Tescos because they have the largest retail presence in my area, although I did use the name in a generic sense like Hoover as non of the local shops sell them.
I wonder if our local Cob shop would be interested in stocking them, I'll pop in at lunch after my Friday pint of Olde Trip (to Jerusalem).
Oh, no, I don't know what sort of oatcakes they were, and as I live in the "deep South", I don't suppose they were the ones you were looking for.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
