That's a myth.... it actually came from (this is stolen from wikipedia!)...

"The Tesco brand first appeared in 1924. The name came about after Jack Cohen bought a large shipment of tea from T.E. Stockwell. He made new labels by using the first three letters of the supplier's name (TES) and the first two letters of his surname (CO) forming the word "TESCO".[7]"

Although this is a bit off topic!:D

    Wikipedia isn't gospel you know.

    Its IS Tessa Choen.

Just because you have a link from an online database which ANYONE can change doesnt mean its right.

    Ask Sir Terry Leahy

Ha - did I touch a raw nerve?!! Didn't mean to offend, I don't usually when I quote a random website....

Wikipedia may not be correct but the Tessa Cohen thing IS a myth - I've confirmed this with Sir Tel.

Is it just me or is the vent board going a bit surreal having moved from the sublime to the ridiculous

    Ivan

    Ivan,

Please dont complain too much or it might disappear :)

I LOVE visiting the Vent Board to read peoples moans and groans. I wouldn't have as much fun if it wasn't here :D

Tesco are in the process of refurbishing my local store (Toton, Notts).
Its getting an optician, and a Tesco Direct desk
So in jest I said to the very nice man who looks after the bread, that since he now had a lot more shelf space they could start stocking North Staffs Oatcakes.
We do he said and led me round the corner to oatcake heaven, 48 p for 6, and very nice too!
Made my day, if a tad embarrassing, now if they started to stock Geetas Mango Chutney again...............................................:rotfl:

God, you wouldn't want supermarket oatcakes at ANY price!
Horrible, rubbery things that they are.
You can't beat proper oatcakes from a proper oatcake shop, they are all different and I don't like the ones from my local village oatcake shop, but the one's from oatcake heaven in Newcastle are to die for, yumm.
The rest of the country don't know what they are missing.

I have to agree, the ones I bought at Poveys in Biddulph were superior to the supermarket ones, and still hot off the griddle.
Sadly we don't have any oatcake shops round here, so the supermarket ones will do nicely until I pass through Biddulph next.
