Would you rather he moped about all day whinging about this that and the other?

I don't think I'll every grow up. Yes I'm mature with a good job that requires me to be serious however when I leave work I don't want to be in the same mind frame when I'm there.

"boys will be boys" and all that. My partner is exactly the same as me though, if you can't have a laugh with each other what's the point of being together really? Relationships still need to be fun regardless of your age.

I think you're the one that needs to lighten up :)

P.S Farting is, and always will be hilarious.

However, from the smutmeister point of view, I'd be inclined to ask him to drop his double entendres, if he really wants to show you that he's a man.

I have a feeling that your husband's business and the company he kept there may have been an outlet for his smuttiness and now that's gone you are on the receiving end of it.

It would be quite funny if his business was one of those old fashioned joke shops, like the one on The League of Gentlemen.

Have you asked him? I wonder if he feels slightly less masculine now he's a SAHD?
Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.
  • My husband has never made those sort of jokes, which is just as well because I can't stand them.

.....But I have to endure them from my son, who thinks they are the most hilarious type of humour there is. He also reads comics, plays Warhammer and buys Lego for himself. He is 33.

My husband has just bought himself a catapult.

So I think the answer to your question is, no they don't. :)

What was he like 20-odd years ago, in the early days of your relationship before the stress and strains of running a business and raising a family?

I'm just wondering whether this is something new or whether he's just reverting to type after a long period of being stressed-out and humourless? If this is the case, well, what can I say...you married him. If it's something new, then there's probably more room for change. Either way, you need to talk to him and tell him that his behaviour is upsetting you.

Personally, I don't have a problem with farting and toilet humour and my partner is a master in the art who prides herself on being the first of us to dispense a "dutch oven". But that's just the way we roll - what's right for one couple isn't right for another.

I can be mature when I need to be, but regress back to my early teens where I found pretty much anything juvenile tickled me.

I still think it's highly amusing to fart on my kids heads as I walk past and then shout "TEN POINTS TO GRYFFINDOR!!" while he shouts for his mum. That kind of stuff should never get old! Hahaaaaa!! I'm laughing thinking about it!

I used to play online games a lot (but gave it up a couple of years ago now) and I find the toilet humour in Family Guy is just to my slightly random taste. It's my favourite show of the last decade.

I guess some people don't want to grow up but circumstances force them to.

Have you ever considered the fact that you are in the wrong?

Farts are funny, always have been. Why do they make whoopee cushions if its not funny? why are there loads of fart apps on the android/Iphone market? why do comedians make jokes about them?

Because some people are idiots. Whoopee cushions are not funny, they have never been funny and they never will be funny. Ditto for fart apps.

But that said, I actually think you have a point. I'm feeling a little sorry for the OP's OH. It sounds like he's just being a little bit silly now that he's finally having the chance to relax and unwind a bit. And what's wrong with that? Someone's sense of humour is one of those things you'll never be able to change.

    And meanwhile:
I thought that was a "Dutch Oven".

Not if he had curry for dinner.

I am going to make a sweeping generalization here which is naughty of me but I don't think there is much development after the age of 14. They may be great husbands wonderful dads caring partners but there is still that adolescent who makes an appearance usually at an inopportune moment but it's part of why we love em.

Well, I cured my OH of doing that when I threw up all over him, the bed and made him clean it all up while I had a nice bath!:)

It doesn't matter what other folk think is funny, if you find your OH's comments offensive then sit him down, look him straight in the eye and tell him so very clearly. If he's got an ounce of respect for your feelings he'll keep the smut to himself after that. Humour is one thing but there's a line and it's not up to one person to tell the other where this line should be, tbh, when it comes to smut and innuendo. If you don't like it that should be the end of it, tell him to keep it for the lads down the pub. It's more about lack of respect, after all, if he knows he's upsetting you and still won't stop.
