Got a new pc a couple of months ago from pc world and have the 1 year parts warrenty, so i need to determine if this fault is software or hardware before contacting them as there software helpline is £1 a min, anyway my pc crashes on a regular basis and not while doing anything in particular i could be surfing, burning or running spybot (most recent crash) and ive been looking into the error or technicall report and its telling me the same thing that its mini041505-01.dmp file thats affected, does anyone know what this is or what could be causing it or how to solve it? So i come on here before i have to take it to pc world and pay a software charge which i reckon to be about £40 or more, please has anyone any advice?
The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Is this the error or is this where the error is logged? mini041505-01.dmp
.dmp is a dump file usualy for dumping info before a crash. Are you running XP?
Have you checked for virus?0 -
Yes i have checked for virus and spyware too, this happens once pc has blue screened but too quick to read much on the blue screen, running xp home with all updates inc sp2.The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

Windows XP auto reboots on a fatal error which is a pain as the blue screen can hold helpfull info, to disable the auto reboot Right Click on My Computer->select properties->Goto Advanced Tab->Startup & Recovery Settings Button->Untick Automaticaly Restart.
If you let us know the info from the blue screen and we can go from there.

You could try searching for that file on microsoft's site.
other than that - I reckon you haven't found your virus yet. Here's a copy of a regular helpful post from a microsoft support forum...
Run these programs to check for spyware/malware. After installing
update them, then boot into safe mode and run them. You should update
and run them weekly.

The filename you gave us is a filname generated by windows. It should contain data about an error.
Install hijackthis and paste the scan log results.......0 -
And the 041505 part will be the date (April 15th 2005) so will change from day to day and will be the reason Google will not find anything on a filename search. It IS a valid Windows file though and this MS Knowledge Base article shows how to access and examine the .dmp file. Post the results here for advice.0

Thanks all for all your help, i run spybot every 2 -3 days and ran a hijack this and went through everything and one thing showed up as spyware so i checked it out via google and the forum (geeks) that it was safe to do so and it got rid of it then pc rebooted again and i caught a little of the blue screen message check enough disc space and check bios settings
but couldnt catch much more it was too quick, i did notice in the hijack this log a lot of entries relating to norton internet security so i presume that would be normal, anything else you can think of?

have you followed megazoid's suggestion for disabling automatic restart in windows? this would allow you to see the code from the blue screen which is very useful... make a note of them all, along with all the parameters (the values in the brackets), then do a google search for them.
also, when you log into windows after the crash and you have the option to send the error report to the evil ones (micro$oft), do you send it? whenever i have sent it i have had an immediate web response giving me a vague idea of the source of the problem.
i am in the same position as you, more or less, as i am unable to determine whether my PC's problem is hardware or software based.
one possible test you can do is download a memory diagnostic tool, and run it on your system. as it runs before windows even begins to load, it can definitely help to isolate a hardware problem... try https://www.memtest.org or http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp.
you may have to leave them running overnight to get meaningful results, however!

Nortons software is renowned for causing problems from time to time, especially after SP2 came along, have you made sure you have been to the site and downloaded any patches to your version ??
if not try Disabling it in start-up or removing it and see if this is causing the crashesEx forum ambassador
