You dont need to translate it - those word should send the fear of god into the store manager. And ask to see the store manager and tell him that the CS staff member told you to phone trading standards - he will have kittens, I wish I could be there to watch!

If they really do try to say that they limit responsibility to 28 days, trading standards will come down on them like a ton of bricks - this HAS to be a mistake

You'll be surprised that just how many companies say things like that but most, once Trading Standards have been mentioned to them, change their attitude and start being all nice to you and everything.

 Today i found out my pc not only had a faulty hard drive but also pc world found my pc to be over heating and that it would need a new processor, fan and motherboard too so i then launched into my quote from t.s. and that i was within my rights to a refund which was what i wanted, so i have to go down tomorrow and sign reciept of refund and collect extra drive that i had fitted, so now on the hunt for a nice new pc, so if anyone can recomend any make or model it would be appreciated;)
The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Well overheating makes sense - that will cause a PC to reboot. Nice to hear that you got what you wanted. You fitted a new drive quite soon after buying it didnt you? Good job PC world didnt say you had invalidated your warranty there! Was the fan dead, or was something obscuring it - it is easy to snag a fan when you are installing new drives!

I fitten new drive day after i got it and i had asked beforehand whether it would invalite and i was told no it would be fine, and for the fan nothing was in its road even when fitting i was carefull no to go near anything else so i really didnt hang about to hear from him it was when effectivley he told me he was ordering in parts so that i would practically have a new machine and that the parts would be of same quality that i stopped him and asked for the refund, one thing going wrong ok but hard drive and another nah. Big thanks to all who have contributed to this post:beer:

If it was overheating and the fan was working then you probably did the right thing - probably had a poorly designed cooling system and the replacement could have been just as bad.

Keep that extra HD, a PC should always have two HDs as a first backup solution

Get a few copies of PCpro for some system recommendations, but bear in mind what your requirements are, too many people overspend on stuff they dont need/want

You could do some reading and build your own system........

Pleased that you are pleased, but I do want to say one thing for PC world - they can be great with returns

I had a cdwriter from HP, back in the day when they cost £275 for a 2x drive. Well, they all had a problem and died after 10-18 months use. My friends lasted 10, mine went after 11. HP would only swap for reconditioned units if you were lucky enough to have it break before the 12 months warranty was up. The reconditioned units died after about 6 months. The fault was well documented on many websites - basically they were all overheating.

If you bought the drive from PC world? They were offering replacement with newer (fault free) drives.

And after all, they have given you a refund when you asked for it firmly. Some places can really dig their heels in.

    Anyway, enjoy you new PC!

Things must have changed or maybe cause it was a known fault, but pc world refused to do any sort of replaement for me at all, as i did try for that first as stupidly we thought pc world must be good - main pc retailer, they only changed there minds about replacement or refund when i mentioned trading standards were taking this on if they didnt refund, which isnt good, how many folk out there will keep accepting repair after repair and getting mucked about by them? Similar problem with a printer 2 weeks old they wernt interested in sorting it or exchanging it instead i had to contact epson direct and that was 6 months ago:mad: Maybe it varies from branch to branch

    Its cool.....

basically PC world were entitled to repair the product for you. I dont think they *had* to give you a refund - but they have. You should be happy. All I am saying is that you should give them the benefit of the doubt now, their customer service can be good.

Anyway, glad things are sorted for you and I'm happy I could help!
