Just out of curiousity, do you need to actually own the items to write the reviews or do a lot of people just blag it? I know that blagging it will mean that the review is of a lower quality, but are you checked up on to make sure that you're being honest?

Put it this way, if I review something it is always something I own/or have owned up until the day I write the review and are perhaps discarding it for reasons I would mention in my review. Lots of people actively report those who lie or are suspected of lying and Dooyoo will investigate this. They may not actively scan all reviews etc but if it is a prolific level 1 product for example then expect to get caught if you lie. I feel it isn't worth it as I don't have time to review everything I own as it is, no point trying to lie about other products. The words always flow for me as I usually have the product in front of me (or in the cupboard, on the drive, in my fish tank etc).

'Blagging it' is not something that Dooyoo take lightly and you will get banned if you get caught.

    mind if i add you?

Feel free to add me, I will be working through to add new people again soon!

Not promising to give you reads/rates as sure that can be viewed as a clicking cartel :) I do try and return all rates though, like many of the longer serving members of Dooyoo :)

Yeah definitely. Anyway, I did a review on my phone last night, seems to have got me 70p overnight, might keep at it.

Do you get miles for rating other users' reviews? If not, why do people bother?

    It is polite.

Also, if people rate you and you don't return the favour, they will soon stop and so you won't earn much.

No but for the majority of users (generally anyone with more than 50 reviews) they will return those rates earning you money.

I had a period of time where I didn't rate during 2009 time, I am behind about 8000 rates because of this but less than that amount of reviews I wrote in 2009 in 2012 earned me about 10,000 rates minimum for less writing. So it probably balances out but basically if you don't rate people you will p*ss them off and then they're perhaps more likely to want you off the site...!

Not saying that is definitely true but who knows? I know I don't like people who don't rate back and I always try to return all rates but catching up my backlog from years ago! :)

basically i earn more by rating as wel;l as it being polite etc. if you rate lots of the new reviews they generally come and read yours and you get paid per read so it pays to rate.

Sometimes I write about books I've borrowed from the library, or DVDs owned by friends that I have watched with them, or things given to me as gifts that I haven't actually bought. This is fine. What is important is that you've had real honest extensive experience with the item, whether it's a TV or a film. Why? Well imagine you wanted to buy a telly, you read a review of it beforehand to make sure it worked correctly and was of a high standard, which the review confirmed it was - it said it was great and had lots of special features and was so easy a five year old could do it etc. And you bought the telly and it had NONE of those things and was way too complex and just generally bad. You'd feel misled and annoyed, right? That's why you don't lie about products you don't own or haven't used.

Well have read this whole thread, joined and written a few reviews and added as many of you as poss (really hope you don't mind).

    I'm HelenDK.

Any feedback gratefully received and promise I'll improve. Will always try and rate back and will rate generally anyway as I like the idea of less reviews and more niceness!
