The advice for new members is a great idea. Especially as sometimes members who have been there one month or one year write there and so you can already see the difference between reviews the longer people have been there!

    Hi all,

Just had a question, I notice that some DY'ers add a copyright symbol with their name at the end of their reviews, I know some people have mentioned reviews being copied and posted on other sites etc but is the copyright details supposed to stop this? Surely anybody copying and pasting would do so without this bit, it does look nice and professional so is that maybe that the only reason for it? thanks

I think it is just for effect. Most plagarised reviews get picked up very quickly, copyright symbol or no.

When you post something online you automatically retain copyright unless otherwise stated e.g. if you enter a writing competition and one of the rules of submission is that the copyright to the work goes over to the publication. This is actually quite a bad deal for the writer as they could have trouble claiming royalties for reprinted editions. Quite a lot of blogging platforms have this hidden in T&Cs, that anything you might post could become their intellectual property, so be careful. Article writing sites like textbroker or Helium have this clause as well. Dooyoo doesn't.

Some people copy their reviews from other sites, e.g. ciao or thebookbag in which case they have to add 'also posted on...' That is the only reason where adding a copyright symbol *might* be justified as more than aesthetic principle in my opinion.
  • Thanks Miwa thats useful to know.

Just one thing, you don't have to add which other site it is posted on. I don't bother and it's fine. I believe that is just so members know that it is that person on other sites too x

Cashed out a £50 bank transfer the other day. Not sure whether to save for another one or get Amazon now. Not been active the last two days so going to get caught up with rates today and write a few reviews.

Might search for some of the equipment I use with my turtles :D Or try and add it - I bet that would be level 1!
