Just thought I would share this for those who are waiting for a decision from the Dawson v Thomson case

The judges reserve a judgment so they can write a judgment. One must understand that a judgment is not a single page order of few lines, the judgment contains the summery of arguments of both the parties, the law of the land, previous judgments on the issue, conclusion and the reasons for arriving on that conclusion. Judges need time to refresh in their memory, the arguments of each party, do research by reading previous judgments and judgments on similar issues in other countries and finally think about the reasons for arriving on a particular conclusion. This entire excersise is very laborious and time consuming. There is no fixed timeframe for the judges to write judgments but six months is considered to be a reasonable time for passing a judgment. If a judge keeps a judgment reserved for more than six months, any of the party can mention to the Chief Justice about this.

If it is a three judge panel, is it one agreed judgement that is produced, based on consensus, or is there a "majority verdict"?

If the judges disagree, a majority verdict counts but it rarely happens these days. If they disagree it is usually about a point of detail. There have been some cases remembered mainly for their dissenting judgments. One of the best (it is worth reading) is Lord Denning's famous judgment in Candler -v- Crane, Christmas and Co (1951). He was vindicated 14 years later in the case of Hedley Byrne.

Hi I am new to forums. Hope I've posted on the right page.
I have just had a call from Thompson about a delayed flight on 29th October 2010 from Sharm el sheikh to Manchester airport, Where me and my sons flight was delayed by approx 22 hours. This call was in response to the online claim I sent them one month ago. I was asked by the lady who called me if I was going to claim on my travel insurance for this delayed flight as this is the route I need to go. Is this true? I must add she did give me an address to send my information to another department flight delays, needs to look at it, after I told her I will be taking it to court. Some advice please.

Claiming on your travel insurance is quite separate from making a claim under the Regulations, nor do you have to account for any money that you receive from your insurers.
Thomson's do have a separate department that deals with delayed flight claims but !!! your trip was over 3 years ago I suggest that you wait until the Court of Appeal gives its judgment in Dawson.
