I agree with the majority.....it's nothing to do with you. Antidepressants are often prescribed for other conditions. Last year, following a car accident, I suffered a trapped nerve in the neck. The doctor prescribed Amitriptyline (an Antidepressant) as it is also used to treat nerve pain

I'm prescribed it as an aid to sleeping as it is a relaxant as well. So keep well out, I would suggest he already knows but as it doesn't directly affect you or the relationship why should he discuss it?

If you're not sure what to do, then the answer is probably 'least said soonest mended'.

Remember, you can't take back something you've said and really, you shouldn't have been looking that carefully at a prescription for your boyfriend's mum. Try to put it from your mind as it really is nothing to do with you, unless you're her carer or something similar?

Thank you for all the responses so far.. we do tell each other everything so I am sure he doesn't know, which is why I find it hard not to tell him, although my instinct does tell me that I should mind my own business instead.

I researched the drug and it seems to be mainly used for anxiety, but really don't know what to think about it as she always appeared as a content middle aged woman...

    No, you read it.

You shouldn't have been reading things on other people's kitchen tables anyway.

As soon as you saw it was a prescription you should have stopped reading it.

They also prescribe it for people who suffer with muscle spasms...

You should not mention it, many people today suffer from depression. I'm sure he knows however you are making it into a big deal.

Life gets more difficult when you are older, you are blowing this way out of proportion ....

It's none of your business what his mom takes. It's between her and her GP.

Maybe you could take it on board though, and be a friend to her.

    Agreed.

    1) it could be for anything. My MIL takes amitryptaline (sp) for pain, I had it for depression. I take Fluoxitine for PMT. I believe it's another name for Prozac.
    2) So what? Maybe she is depressed. Big deal. Lots of people are.

If your bf wanted you to know about it, I'm sure he would have told you. Not that I'm suggesting that it's none of yours - it's just not that big a deal.

If she hasn't told him, its certainly not your place to tell him. Please respect her privacy.

Its entirely possible that's what he's doing too.
