I told family, friends and work colleagues when I first started and they were like "you won't win anything it's all a con and a waste of time" as they walked off laughing ... then about 3 months later I went into work and asked for 2 weeks off at short notice, yes you know what I'm about to say .... 10 day all inclusive tour of Vancouver, Victoria and Whistler in Canada, 5 star all the way. Have any of them been whale watching, seen brown bears close up or been on a sea plane. No.

Fast forward 2 years and now I get "can you try and win me this or that?". It's hilarious really. God, I love my hobby and it's great when I can give family members extra gifts at Christmas which I wouldn't normally be able to afford. :j

  • really interesting thread!

i've stopped telling all my friends about wins as some aren't interested at all and also i didn't want to brag. However i have one friend who's always interested so it's nice to be able to have a proud moment with her ;) Another friend tried the hobby out and got tickets she was after for the Ideal Home show but is going to leave it at that.

i think as in life some people are careful with money and have a purse bulging with loyalty cards and are interested in stretching their money out as far as possible and then some people don't think about money and it doesn't interest them to think of ways of eeking it out. (clearly my purse keeps popping open spilling out all of it's points cards for coffees / supermarkets / random shops :rotfl: )
Best wins: Holiday to San Francisco, Full sky package + TV, Rewind Festival tickets & Snoozebox, 5* London hotel stay, £1000 B&Q

I am a comping addict but only my husband knows about it as he sees me on the laptop for hours on end each evening ;) I cant bring myself to sit on a sofa and not do anything but sit on bum realaxing - I have to comp at the same time.

I work full time and have busy family life and don't talk about my comping hobby to anyone mainly because I don't win prizes  and know that my friends would say its a waste of time spending 4 hours a night comping but my opinion is that if your name isn't in the draw you will never win it - I will wait to win a nice holiday or a big prize and then will maybe tell freinds as can show off to them all that it is a worthwhile pastime :D fingers crossed that will happen soon as been comping for over five years now and not won a biggie yet xx

There is a rumour going around my daughter's school that we won our house :rotfl: we didn't, sadly. However, I tell most people that I comp and get some that are interested in learning more but then don't seem to want to put the effort in, and others who think I am crazy. My in laws tell me that prizes are no use I need to win money - I think they imagine I skip the big money comps and just enter the ones to win small things as these are the things they usually get given.

I can't sit around doing nothing either so I comp while I am watching TV or at times when I find I have a moment to myself. Okay, I comp non-stop, it's an addiction but I love it! :)

I must admit i am quite open about it, i dont care if they think i'm a saddo. i enjoy it and that is what matters.

They ask quite often at work if i have won but i think that is because they have benefited quite a lot from my wins as i like to share.

My name is Alisch and i am a compaholic....

my family know i do comps and my mum and one of my brothers have been doing some comps now although nowhere near as much as me! its weird tho as i always feel a bit embarrassed telling people, i suppose its the fact i try to win some things that others can easily afford so i sometimes feel like a cheapskate or something lol! i chose my avatar as it does sometimes make me feel like ive got a "begging bowl" out, i know i shouldnt feel that way its a perfectly good hobby enjoyed by thousands of people of all ages yet i still get that funny feeling telling people! it is true some people dont believe an "ordinary joe" like me could win something big, i felt that way when i started comping but have had a few nice wins so it is possible. i think i`ll always feel uneasy telling people, thats just down to my mindset tho.

i've only just started comping, started a month ago and have no wins as yet but i'm really enjoying it. I have had some dodgy reactions to my hobby, my partner thinks it's a waste of time and my brother thinks that it's embarassing. I thought people would be more supportive and i bet they wouldn't moan if i did win anything for them but it is a little frustrating. I do worry that people will get fed up of my comp entries on fb but i have two year old twins and both me and my partner are at university (mine's is studied from home ) and i very rarely get the opportunity to leave the house except when i take them for a walk or to the park. So it's a nice thing i do for myself and it gives me a little thrill when i check my email or the phone rings, silly i know but still. i try to do it everyday although i can't always but i'm still new and have a lot to learn i find the dailies a little confusing but i love it x
Starting afresh - comping as much as poss!

Hoping for: some beauty goods, clothes, amazon vouchers, anime, manga, wardrobe, fridge freezer, laptop, an ipad, vouchers for next, exercise goods, a uk break and a wee hol somewhere nice!
    Wishing all a little luck:beer:

I have been doing competitions for 26 years.

Everyone I work with knows I enter competitions, they ask me if I won anything lately

there is few people who enter competitions at work, I am pleased for them when they win, they don't enter as many competitions as me

All my family or happy about me doing comps, as I give them prize I have won over years, and I have took them on my holiday win to Lapland
