I tell my close family but if I tell others I think they think I spend all day doing it, which i dont and I never say about my wins on FB as I feel like I am showing off, people can get quite jealous!!0

I don't mind people knowing I enter competitions but I hate that I've sort of become the "comping girl" and the first thing people ask when they see me is "won anything lately?" I'd like to be known for things other than that and feel quite shy/embarrassed talking about it a lot.
But my family loves it because they reap the benefits of it, and I've inspired a few friends to start comping too:j0 -
I told one of the mums at my son's school as I had my first win just before school finished and couldn't help grinning from ear to ear. I thought it would seem less strange to tell her why I looked so pleased with myself, rather than just standing there randomly smiling!£630/ £20140

And sometimes I worry that people will think I'm a bit of a sad-o without much of a life. But I've also found it to be a talking point at job interviews etc and people love reading about my wins on my blog. I love my hobby!
Also I think my friends on Facebook are getting sick of my 'omg I just won...' statuses so I don't post those anymore!!
How open are you about your hobby?
i've been comping for years when it was snail mail/slogans/postcard/postal entries way back then
won my first crossword comp in a sunday newspaper back in the 70's
best thing ever when they started arriving on the internet,
i moved to a new place a couple of years ago & the first thing i told neighbours was i was a comping addict:rotfl:
they love it& even have quite a few of them bring me thier codes from various comps to put in so's we can share the win, some of them have started comping themselves after i showed them mse & the various comp sites & have had wins as well :j even my postie has started comping along with his oh after he'd mentioned to me i had a lot of deliveries i invited him in & showed him how to join here & what to do,
they've won a couple of prizes as well
my family/friends love it as well as they're always getting prezzies & various freebies/gifts etc along with the big wins we've all benefitted from :j
so i'm very open about my comping hobby & love to tell people what i've won & also love to hear/see what others have won, it's a wonderful hobby :j
.please be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -
I just tell anyone and they are shocked at what I win because of all the scams they don't think real people win good stuff so it soon changes there minds. I often get friends and family sending me messages about where do I find all these comps I enter because they would like to have a go. When my friends come round to see me they always ask what i've won recently they are all interested and always say I never win anything but they probably only enter about 5 comps and think they have entered loads they do make me laugh.
So never feel daft saying what you doThanks all the posters xxxx Be lucky xxxx0 -
I tell everyone. Most people say "oh, I never win anything" I ask if they enter any comps and they say "no" :rotfl:.
I'm really happy with my wins and want to let people know, if they're jealous or off with me then that's their bad luck. I do it for myself and my family, not them. Not that I've had much luck this year apart from a book and a Bungie goody bag.
Tell people, be proud of your comping. If they don't want to do it then all the more comps for us :jMortgage: Was: £154,495 Oct 2039 Now: £82,340.34 May 2037Swagbucks ~ £155 (2024 ~ £395)Surveys ~ £151.04 (2024 ~ £280.14)Make £2025 in 2025 #5 ~ £964.62 ~ (2024 ~ £2,561.04)0 -
It is rather impossible to keep it a secret when you win holidays and your wedding abroad! No one really knew about my comping till i won a trip to panama.. that was such an usual place to go people kept asking 'why panama' so then people found out. Since then i've won i think 15 holidays, lots of smaller uk trips etc so you can't easily keep it quiet.
I try not to tell to many external work people about it and certainly would avoid talking about it at a job interview. The danger is people think you spend all day comping rather than working. Also now everyone presumes that I've won everything, so family think I've won their birthday / christmas presents... (and ok so sometimes i have.)
People are fascinated by it. But it can lead to some people being a bit jealous and funny about it. For the same reason (and lack of time) I don't put everything i win on IWIWIW only the bigger or more interesting stuff. I love the photo thread, it cheers me up when I'm waiting for a big win and gives me inspiration so I do try to put some posts up there. Reminds me I need to post there.. which i win when i come back from paris next week. (yes a win)Top wins in 2018: Trip to Iceland, helicopter ride over london, couples massage, £300 flight from Pringles, trip to Paris, cocktail making class and afternoon tea up the shard. .
Top wins in 2017:holiday to the Bahamas, trip to Paris, meal with champagne, a week in a manor house in France with £500 spending money.0 -
I told my friends when I won something 'worth wild' which was my iPad, so they could see that people DO actually win things from competitions.
They were like "Ah your so lucky! I would never be as lucky as that"
When I'm really not, I'm just applying to like 50+ comps a day but I will never tell them that lol
They think my comping is rather sad, and they get sick of my Twitter retweets/Facebook shares, which I would to, but I try not to speak about my hobby, because they will probably think I have some kind of disorder :rotfl::rotfl:
But who care, I love it! When I win a holiday, I'll show them how stupid it is:D

I tell anyone that's interested! My family love it as most of them have benefited from my wins in one way or another.
My work colleagues are intrigued by it and often ask me "have you won anything lately". A few of them have even got into comping themselves in a small way.
I'm sure some of my Facebook friends probably get a bit irritated by my posts - but they've always got the option to remove me from their feed!:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0 -
Most of my family know of my hobby! They get most the gifts...share and share! People at work think I'm mad until I tell them of all the stuff I have won....but still think I'm mad...jealousy i call it!TOTAL 2013 £3100
TOTAL 2014 £1250
TOTAL 2015: £500 winning:2 tkts to theatre, Cap1 Footie, weeks holiday in lakes.0
