Do you tell people about your comping hobby?

I was just wondering if many of you openly talk about comping to others. I sometimes feel a little awkward saying 'oh I won that' when people ask me where I got something. And sometimes I worry that people will think I'm a bit of a sad-o without much of a life. But I've also found it to be a talking point at job interviews etc and people love reading about my wins on my blog. I love my hobby!

Also I think my friends on Facebook are getting sick of my 'omg I just won...' statuses so I don't post those anymore!!

How open are you about your hobby?

Very open to my family as they're so excited for me, plus I like to share my wins. :)

I'm a little bit shy with some others, although my sons aren't. My youngest was proudly telling his friends that his mum won him his ipad mini recently. I blushed though at their shock. :o

    Hi Vikki

Great post. I feel exactly the same as you. I dont really tell anyone as I also feel like they will think I am a sad o or weird as its not the norm. My hubby knows and my mum dad brothers and sisters but I dont tell my friends.

People are so judgemental. I havent really won that much tbh and certainly nothing compared to you so dont have the problem of people getting fed up listening to me lol

Yes, I'm sure people think I need to get out more too, until they hear how much I win - then they are asking me how they can get in on it themselves! A friend only did a few comps and won a Samsung Galaxy phone, another won some expensive trainers. I do warn people that it becomes a bit of an obsession though .... oh well, time to go and do a few more!

I actually spoke to a mum at the school & said that I felt embarrassed & she said I wouldn't it's brilliant!
  • I tell people, if they think its sad I just tell them what I've won.

They usually dont think its that sad after that! :j

My family are supportive of me doing comps. I've also recently told my friend about comping and what I've won and shes amazed at what I've won from doing comps. She has entered a few comps after that! My auntie is also very jealous and wants to steal most of my wins :rotfl:

I know how you feel!! My family know that I do it, and they love it when I win. I mentioned it to some colleague's at work and they thought it was a bit sad, but when I told them what I'd won they changed their minds. I love my hobby though, so I don't care what people think :)
:T Thanks to everyone who posts comps!
  • I'm very open about my hobby with my OH, parents and most of my mates. With my mates though I don't tend to really talk about it unless they ask or I have won something larger, apart from my one friend that comps too.

At work I have had some questions as I had to book time off recently for a holiday that I won and everyone there just seems vaguely amused by my odd hobby :o

Mentioned it in passing to one guy at my last job and he said "oh all those scams you see in the magazine inserts? Yeah bet you must win lots doing that" and laughed. He was annoying anyway so left at that, didn't partiularly want him to know what he was missing! :rotfl:

I love my hobby, I am retired and it gives me something to do keeps my mind active. My family love my hobby and are really pleased that I share my wins around them. I don't care what other people think, its no sadder than playing computer games all day. I don't think non-compers realise just how much effort we put in.

BIG THANKS TO ALL WHO POST THE COMPETITIONS
