The nut roast was ok, won't be making it again though, it tasted lovely but was rather soggy. The oven started playing up and cutting out tonight so really must report it.

Have had a message on messenger today from someone on the Macmillan forums, she has the same brain lymphoma Mr SA had, only 43, she is so scared and about to have a stem cell transplant in a couple of days, had to reassure her she'll be ok. If Mr SA can do it anyone can. Very scary that it seems to be getting more common and affecting women - it used to mainly affect men. She's had no complications so should be fine.

I bought some crackers for the grandkids with wind up santas, can't believe Mr SA seems to have acquired 3 wind up santas when they were meant for the kids. When questioned he said they still have 3!!!!

Hope everyone has had a good day :)

Boxing Day already. Mr SA woke me up at 5am by switching the TV on.

Glad Christmas Day is over to be honest. I get fed up of seeing all the happy family pictures on FB and comments how they've been thoroughly spoiled. Shouldn't look really. Sorry for sounding like the Grinch, there are others far worse off and we did have visitors Christmas Eve which was nice.

Thanks to Mr SA being bah humbug, yesterday was a NSD.

Not sure what we're doing today, if the weather is OK might take the dog to a nicer park further away but still walkable. Mr SA has kindly reminded me I've got plenty of decluttering to do if I'm bored! There are the two cupboards of doom to sort out - and DD's dreaded wardrobe assembly (SIL tried to make BIL put it up Christmas Eve but I wouldn't let him, you could see he wasn't keen!).

Need to list plans for 2018, mainly involving spending less, saving more and using up what I've got in stock first.

Hope everyone has a fab day :)

  • Happy Boxing Day SA :hello:
Hope you get a quiet day today, with a walk wherever you want, rather than what is expedient..

Tell Mr SA he can start the decluttering by giving back the 3 wind up santas :D

So the decluttering it is then ...Mr SA has got man flu.

I just took the dog on the park across the road, it was lovely as we were the only ones there.

Of course this means we won't be going to the nicer further away park or the local for a Boxing Day drink but on the plus side at least he's gone off the Boxing Day sales idea (not that it was going to happen).

So fingers crossed for another NSD.

Already started on the cupboard of doom, doing it gradually, don't care if it takes all day on and off.

Will probably need several stiff drinks to face the cupboard of extreme doom under the stairs though :)

  • Is the cupboard of extreme doom big enough to squeeze in with a bottle?

LOL redo- it sure is :)

Still ploughing my way through the dining room cupboard. I've got loads to throw out but the trouble is both bins are full.

Can't believe how many unread magazines I've got - an excuse if ever there was to put my feet up and plough through them.

Mr SA has gone back to bed and DD hasn't got up yet, not even for a drink.

Right back to the sorting out ....

  • Happy Boxing Day SA.

I have had many years of feeling unhappy on Christmas Day, mainly down to family. We now don't really bother with them but have been piggy backing on my friends family, invited of course :rotfl:. We have such a brilliant time since not focusing on actual family. Gosh that sounds awful doesnt it but unfortunately true. Fbk is all over the top and very much exaggerated in my opinion !

Never mind the decluttering, sit down with one of your many magazines whilst Mr SA and DD are out of your hair :D.

Had to laugh at Mr SA with the santas though :rotfl: xx

Hi MTG - I'm a bit cross about the wind up santas as they were supposed to be for the kids - he must've actually taken them off DGD as she had them in her pocket. Goodness knows what he's going to do with them!

Finished decluttering the cupboard of doom, got Mr SA to push the rubbish down in the bins to make room and the bin men are coming for the recycling tomorrow. For once our bottle box isn't overflowing! Put up a wall sticker in the bedroom - says sweet dreams - looks good. Also finished reading a Christmas book I've been reading since November.

Confession time - I've spent £26 in the Debenhams online sale on some perfume I wanted that's down to half price. Went through TCB and noticed there's almost enough in there (£21) to cash out and cover the cost :)

Going to have to buy some plastic drawers for Mr SA to keep all his tools and thousands of screws in one place although this should be quite cheap. Unbelievably I gave DD some plastic drawers last week because I didn't need them. Mr SA wanted to ask for them back but he could do with some on wheels - a bit like they have in beauty salons/hairdressers.

Thank goodness I booked the rest of the week off - work is back open tomorrow.

I feel a wee bit the same. I put a lot of thought and effort into Christmas, and I don’t feel I get the same back. It’s not about the presents, I know, but I got a candle that was already reduced and then I got double discount off it too, and a £1 body spray. I bought them both myself for DH and the boys to give me. Even if it was just a bar of chocolate, I would have loved to have had a ‘surprise’. Something that said ‘we thought of you’. Does that make me sound ungrateful? Xx

No you don't sound ungrateful Lucky - I know just how you feel. I put a lot of effort into getting the right gifts and I really don't expect or want anyone to spend a lot on me, but I would like them to actually think about what I'd like rather than something random that's cheap. It's the lack of thought that bothers me. I know Mr SA doesn't have much choice but to rely on me to pick something from him and he used to be brilliant at picking presents in the old days, but there's no excuse for the kids, especially DD. I've got friends who are just so lucky I hope they appreciate it.

Chevalier said as much on Robin's diary - so it's not just us.

My kitchen tonight has been like a restaurant - Mr SA and DD have had meatballs - with chips for Mr SA and spaghetti for DD. I've had a stir fry with left over veg - sliced up some sprouts to add in and it was lovely.

Will be putting my feet up with a glass of wine in a bit once I've cleared up.
