    Thanks Satchmo

Just after I posted on here last night I heard a thud upstairs. Mr SA had fallen at the top of the stairs again. I had a struggle to get him up and there was a wet patch underneath him. He had been acting strange all day and more so just before he went to bed. I really hope he hasn't started with the seizures again. It's hard to tell as his seizures are more absences, he doesn't jerk or anything, but he always loses control of his bladder or bowels.

I'll keep a really close eye on him today. I have to make him an appointment with the GP anyway so I'll mention this episode. However, we brought a bottle of Bacardi back from holiday and despite the fact we have only had 2 measures each out of it so far, there is about a third of the bottle missing. I poured out the measures as Mr SA is too heavy handed and he has to be careful with alcohol, DD doesn't like rum, so my suspicions are drifting towards Mr SA. He was in and out of the kitchen last night where the bottle is kept. It would explain his strange behaviour. I will be very cross with him if this is the case. He'll deny it of course. I'm going to have to hide the bottle, although if he did drink it he'll feel rough today so won't be interested.

So today will be spent meal planning, emptying my washing basket to take advantage of the dry and windy weather, make soup for work lunches, take dog out and probably DS will bring GD to see us. I will not give in to Mr SA with coffee or lunch out pleas. Today is my turn to have a say in what we do.

Not looking forward to going back to work. I wish I could afford to reduce my hours, it's hard working full time then coming home and putting my carer's hat on. I know there are many others in the same boat but it doesn't make it any easier.

  • Sorry to read about your rough day yesterday. Making a massive assumption that the drink Mr SA had in Wetherspoons was alcoholic, do you find that he gets worse after drinking? Mr Lucky has been told to avoid alcohol ( though that isn't a problem as he doesn't drink now anyway) xx

  • Oh, I took so long (sorting out DS2 mid post) to post that you have already answered the question!!

I think you've found the cause for yesterday's odd behaviour. Hugs Xx

I'm keeping an open mind Lucky. I showed him the rum bottle and said this has gone down a bit but he's adamant it wasn't him. He was told to be careful with alcohol. I don't begrudge him a beer or two given the nature of his illness but as his consultant said there is enough going on in his brain as it is. He's now wandering about feeling sorry for himself and saying he won't be here much longer anyway, we'll be better off without him, etc. the rum has now been packed away. The annoying thing is I bought it so we could have the odd drink at the weekend and for it to last for a while.

So the upshot is I'm not panicking yet but will keep a close watch on him.

Would you feel you could reduce your hours once you are debt free?
A wee goal to think about?

Thanks Beanie - maybe if I stuck to doing 37 hours instead of the 40 I end up doing it might help (I work flexi time).

Anyway this afternoon I had made my soup, seen the GD, walked the dog, washed and ironed, had prepared the evening meal and was just about to sit down and do my meal plan then have a nice relaxing bath before pouring myself a glass of wine and watching Strictly and X Factor. Guess what? Suddenly water started pouring from the kitchen ceiling. Ran upstairs to the bathroom where water was pouring from the electric shower. Mr SA fell over trying to switch the stopcock off, which he had just said I wouldn't be able to do as I am female (!!!!). Luckily DD was there and we got him up but was tempted to leave him on the floor after that comment! Fortunately (once again) we have British Gas plumbing care and they got someone out to us in less than an hour. The upshot is we need a new shower which is not covered :( but it could have been worse. We can't use the main kitchen light for 2 days until it's dried out, we have no shower and everywhere is soaked. The plumber also noticed our toilet is leaking which he very kindly tried to fix but we are covered for this so I need to get another appointment for proper fix.

What an afternoon!! BG will quote for new shower but they admit they are not the cheapest. Told them I need one ASAP due to Mr SA unable to use bath and they said job would be a priority. I should get quote tomorrow when suppliers are open

Might have to put back estimated date of debt free:(

Buffy can't complain about BG Homecare service though. They are brilliant for this, no complaints. Will await quote but might shop around. Depends how quick job can be done, pretty urgent really.

Not watching Downton - have never been able to get into it. Mr SA is watching Our Girl (or similar name) on BBC. Have glass of wine and dog on my knee though if that's any good!

Must go to bed soon as alarm is set for 05.15 (boo!!!!).
