Dating site logging you in?

Can a dating site, such as POF log you in, or show you as being online when you haven't actually used your account for months?
There is no ipad or iphone being used and no app on a phone used, just computer based.
My relationship depends on the answers I get!

AFAIK i don't think mine has been online since i deactivated my account (i have friends on there and they've not seen me)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
The account wasn't deactivated or closed, just not used for about 6 months. Apparently0

Even the likes of MSE and Facebook where you can choose to be logged in permanently you still show as offline after a period of inactivity so I'm saying no.
Sounds like the desperate excuse of someone who's just been caught out0 -
I wouldn't end a relationship purely based on this, even if they have logged in. It's a tricky one because to check on each other you are generally logging in anyway - me and my ex used to argue about that. Also may depend on the cookies. Sometimes your computer will remember the password and automatically log you in anyway.
The fact that you were checking up on this person is probably more indicative of other issues.Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -
Hmm I suspected as much.
Was hoping there was some marketing ploy or something to make it look like more people were online than actually were or something.
Oh well, onwards and upwards. Again.0 -
His profile was spotted by a friend, and so I created a blank account to check to see if it was actually him.
As I was looking at the profile, which said 'chat with...' in green, it then changed to '.... is online'.
So I sent him a text asking what was going on as I had seen his POF profile as being online.
A minute or so later it changed to '... was online today'
He claims it is an old profile he didn't delete and that he hasn't used it since we got together.
So yes I was checking on him, and he knows I was!0 -

Don't end it just yet!
You mention iphone ipad, what about android or windows phones?
I have just changed my phone, and it will go off and check for updates when the screen is on.
And also, as you can still get updates to the phone, then somewhere along the road there is a connection.
If you wanna be coy and really test the water, set up a fake profile (or get somebody else to log on) and contact the other half on it, see if you get a reply
In defence though whether male or female, the moment two people get a date set up, they don't de-activate their account.0 -
I've been told I show as online sometimes when I've not logged into PoF in over 2 years.0

You should have messaged him from your new account, then you could have been sure. Doesn't look good though. Me and an ex were on a 'break' when I found him on match.com shopping for his new gf. Fair enough, we weren't together, but stupid me got back with him and lived to regret it!Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!

Blantly he was online. The question is why was he on there? He might (probably won't) have a valid excuse.
I used to look at dating websites when I was in a relationship because my single friend would want me to look at men she was interested.0
