    Self confidence

I have been off work today so more time to read yet another book:D

My self confidence has never been strong and I have fought with it all my life but it says in the book that you should find something that you do like about your body, that there has to be something....

When you look deeply into it, there has to be, whether it be the colour of your eyes, your small feet because there are always shoes that fit, your knees because you do not need plastic surgery on them like Victoria Beckham wants to have, ,your arms because they are lovely and thin, your delicate hands because they are soft, your shoulders because they are in proportion...

So I did as the book says and found a few bits that are nice enough but the negative goes further than that and all I can see is the stomach that is fat, hangs there and prevents me from being happy with my lot and happy with the clothes that I am in now....the over 3 stone weight loss has been heavily marred by the stomach, my H and all around me say it is a shame I cannot see any more than that, will have to learn to take the confidence to another level and live with what I have rather than living in the negative....

It is more than perfection, that does not exist I don't think, what I am after is peace within me to be able to enjoy the clothes, the way I look, the way I act and to appreciate the efforts that has gone into this to achieve what was supposed to be a happy outcome.....

People blame my mother as she was my confidence breaker and have not been able to pick it up again, I am more like a little child that needs reassurance and am too old for that, far too old , it has to come from me, from within, anyway all this came from the 'how to look good naked' on Channel 4 last night, I think the lady that went down the catwalk in her undies was very brave but what struck me was how she put herself in the wrong position when told to stand in line, she had it out of proportion, her self confidence to the way other people see her and even she was surprised but in the end with a great deal of help and a very strong push she went down the catwalk, good on her:j :j

Hello! what a lovely shiny new thread we have once again! Thanks Lois for putting in the time/effort to put it together for us all.

I think i lost 1 lb (making it a 5lb total - i.e. i think i just met the april challenge, but even if i missed it i'm still quite chuffed) but i'm not 100% sure as i forgot to use the sportcentre scales when i went swimming so had to use my indecisive home scales (i've given up on getting them to say my correct weight, and just use them in exactly the same spot in my room every week - so even tho i dont really know how much i weigh i can still kinda measure losses/gains)

i'm feeling really positive about the may challenge as i wont have as many distractions this month (3 exams down, only 2 exams to go! - revision=comfort eating)

Have bought some sugar free jelly as advised by a few others on the WL threads, and am really loving it as it's just perfect for when i'm craving some sweetness but know i shouldnt!! (i like raspberry flavour best!)

Did 34 lengths of the pool today (approx 30 mins swimming) and had half a low fat pizza for dinner with corn on the cob and fresh spinach and tomato salad with homemade salad dressing (extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, pepper and lots of garlic - my first attempt at making it after reading about it on the OS board - and i'm quite pleased. it's very light and summery, and much better for me than the 1000island i usually slather my salad with!)

Have also looked into SW, as i'm finding calorie counting effective but really frustrating, and i often beat myself up for eating things as a result. SW looks good but complicated so i have asked on freecycle for anyone's old SW books.

Well done all the Losers (especially those i noticed have lost their 1st stone-well done!!) and maintainers. Sorry i havnt named anyone specifically but it all got too complicated for me what with moving threads, sorry!!!
Hope everyone's having a good week.
    :)

... in Spain they also call it "play Ludo". Who knows why.

Oh, well, back from the gym. I'm very tired today, but skipped a whole week of exercise because of the play I was doing last week. And you know, you begin skipping a class just because... and end up on the sofa eating crisps, drinking beer and watching The Simpsons every night. So I did crawl to the gym. Managed to do the main bit of routine. Now I'm in the hope that I won't be so tired for the next session on Friday.
I wish I weren't so tired most of the time. It's tiring.

    Victory (((hugs)))

Your post really chimes with me, and probably with 75% of women, if not more. I used to be very self conscious, and lacked confidence as a result, but I'm nowhere near as bad as I was, so I think confidence does come with age. Having said that, you need to come to terms with your own body, concentrate on the good bits and accept the bad bits.

It's easy to compare ourselves to other people, but we can't change the structure we were born with. If you're naturally apple shaped, no amount of dieting or exercise is going to change you into a bean pole, unfortunately. You can improve things, as you are doing, and you can also find a style of clothing that disguises the bits you don't like, and accentuates the bits you do.

There are so many reasons for people to lack confidence in this way - the media for constantly bombarding us with images of airbrushed lovelies, our parents, our peers, and ourselves. I was bullied at school and as you can imagine, that did incredible harm to my confidence, but I got to a point in my life where I decided that I couldn't keep letting them affect me - it doesn't happen overnight, it's a gradual process, and it has to come from yourself. It helps if other people support you, but it won't happen if that little voice in your head is telling you not to believe people when they pay you a compliment.

You could spend a fortune in therapy to get to the point of acceptance, or you can work on yourself (the moneysaving way!) and persuade yourself that you have your whole life ahead of you, and you don't want to spend the rest of it disliking your body. There are lots of self help books around that would help too - type confidence or self esteem into Amazon.

I hope this helps and doesn't come across as a lecture. :)

    Hi all

Here's the chart for this week, and also the last chart for the April challenge, which ended today. Quite a few people achieved or over achieved the target - well done Jab, Katmad, Lotty, Petrichor, Retiredlady, Suggs and Victory :j

The Slimmer of the Week award goes to *debbie* for losing 6 pounds - well done. :T

I hope I've got everyone - please let me know if I've missed you out.

    Have a good week :D

    Hello all......

I have just found this slimming link...MSE style! I am cross with myself. Feeling down, flabby, unattractive and in clothes that felt tight last Monday night I saw an online link to a low GI diet.

On opening it I discovered a Sun Diet thread....It sounded good...and as I was feeling awful and low I got out my credit card there and then and signed up for a month...and it cost me
