there is no GOOD alternative
crisps are my one indulgence, (fat wise)
i dont drink, i dont go out, and i LOVE a crisp
i have tried making my own, vegetable crisps etc etc
but when it comes down to it, NOTHING is like a bag of crisps
you can offer alternatives, but they wouldnt be received as well
my children do eat crisps, not all the time, but a bit of what you fancy now and again does you good
i make cheesy bread sticks, and all the above mentioned things, i will eat them, but its not the same:(0 -
I heard (on QI so it MUST be true!!!!!) that crisps are actually worse for kids' teeth than sweets. I have no evidence at all for this statement, and have not looked for any yet so it maybe rubbish - this thread just reminded me so I thought I'd share!0

What about Crisp-bread, crackers, rivita minis or ricecakes suggesting its not the actual potatoe they like just the crunch? With some of the suggestions you can add your own flavours like Primula cheese spread with ham etc. Or how about the dairylea dunkers with breadsticks, crackers or tortilla chips which are high in bad fats but theres not many there - just enough to satisfy that crisp craving without being deprived my hubby says and he gets his calcium
Get rid of the crisp idea altogether and introduce carrot, cucumber, celery, fruit sticks with a dip or apple, cheese, raspberries, blackberries (both berries having crunchy pips) instead ?Failure is only someone elses judgement.

A good way of cutting back is to not give them a whole packet of crisps every day. Use a small, airtight container and put in half a bag of crisps or half a dozen Pringles. It's enough and if they're hungry can always eat carrot sticks or cucumber to fill up!
Also, Asda do some lovely Garlic crackers which would give the crunch effect but not very MSE I suppose.0 -

On the moneysaving side, the Mr T value plain salted crisps are incredibly cheap, and the packets are smaller too, so healthier and MSE...
Otherwise, what about chopped up bits of fruit or veg like apple, cucumber, carrot etc (not all together, obviously!) Vary it a bit to keep things interesting!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
