ooh oatcokes might work well, I imagine they are pretty basic.

I make my own "crisps" which are tortilla wraps snipped with scissors into triangles and fried in oil. The healthy variation is toasted pitta and you could have a dip with them

Maybe salty popcorn? You couldnt freeze it though, but it might last a few days. I made some yesterday for packed lunch, but the kids smelt it cooking and ate it all.:o

Mini pizza fingers - toast a pieceof bread, add a thin smear of ketchup, a sprinkling of grated cheese (a bit of thinly shredded ham) grill for 2 mins.
When they have cooled, slice into three and put into an tin/container until they go in the lunches...very tasty cold.
Rice cakes are cheap and savoury...can be a bit bland tho.

Popcorn is my standard crisp alternative. I usually sprinkle it with parmesan or Italian seasoning.

Munchy seeds are another favourite with my lot http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=4926265&postcount=5

Popcorn is very easy and cheap. you can add allsorts of things - honey, cinnamon, curry powder, vanilla.

Breadsticks are great with a little tub of cream cheese.

My latest addition to my kids box is boiled eggs shaped into cars and fish using an egg mould. I bought mine along with lots of other great lunch box things from this seller on Ebay.

The pick sticks are great for holding together mini sandwich stacks.

Granola or trail mix are good options for a bit of crunch. You can make your own up by combining seeds, dried fruits and nuts (if permitted at your children's school)

When I can I make home made vegetable crisps. All i do is use a potato peeler to slice parsnips, carrots and swedes (leaving skin on) and layer them on a teflon coated baking tray, spray with fry light oil and cook on a low heat for a long while (sorry I don't time it! - just keep checking) They are lovely, low fat and I think are good for them and the best thing is - the kids love them and so do their friends!

Good luck in your quest. Since ditching the crisps and choc I used to buy, my kids now love their healthy packed lunches and they are not at all boring!

Pita crisps are good - take a packet of pitas (garlic and herb flavour are good) Toast as normal and then separate into 2 flat halves. Cut each half into about6-8 triangles with scissors and then put on a baking sheet. Bake at 200C for 5-10 mins until crisp. Keep for several days in a tin. Cost - about 40p for 6 pitas - makes loads. Cost of bag of pita chips in Tesco - £1.99!!! Excellent with dips.
