I recevied a receipt informing me that I £0.94 off my next shop as my comparable grocery shopping would hve been cheaper elsewhere. They give 28 days in which to redeem. I wasnt aware of the scheme, but the kind checkout lady did point out to me that I had a money off voucher (supposed so many people just chuck them away without looking). I wouldnt mind but on the same shop I used £12.50 worth of vouchers......so feel like i had a result!!!

I used £15 of vouchers yesterday (including a £5 off £40 'helper') and still got 78p discount voucher as well.

Looks good to me, but then I won't shop anywhere but Tesco for other very good reasons!!

One downside compared to the old system is that you don't have any back up that the comparison is fair. All you get is a print out. Same with sainsburys.

Not like I don't trust tesco, but it makes you wonder if they remove any items they are massively more expensive on by saying it's not a match, and adding in cheaper items compared to something it can't be compared to (different sizes etc)

It's a shame the Tesco price match doesn't extend to Tesco Direct.

We bought a printer on Friday costing £89, discovering later that the same model could have been purchased at Asda for £20 less.

    We should have shopped around!

I have started to use the self service tills at our Tesco,a lot of people don't bother taking their money off till spits, and they are just left.I have been popping in a couple of times a day, buying a couple of reduced bits then using the coupons I have found discarded, this week I have managed to use £15.00 worth of price match coupons.I also found 3 x£5 off £40 spend.I only buy reduced price food so will fill the freezer up.

You can still input the receipt details into the old Price Match site and it will immediately give you a detailed breakdown of what was what.

Just put my receipt details onto the Tesco Price Promise site and it showed that 2Ltr Coke Zero was 2 for £2 on Tesco and Tesco said that it was 2 for £3.50 on Asda but when I checked Asda.com they were only £1 each so the same price as Tesco for two.

Baxters soups 4 for £3 at Tesco and 4 for £3 at Asda.com and Tesco say that theirs is 75p (which is right at the 4 for £3) but they say that Asda is 98p each with the Lentil & Bacon being n/a when it is clearly on Asda's site so should have compared as the same instead of losing 3 times 23p. Under the bottom of the receipt which they have shown online when I keyed in the receipt date etc, it says that they use asda.com to compare the Asda prices so don't know why it varies from what they have.

Asda was £1.90 cheaper apart from 3 items at 20p dearer so I should have got a voucher for £1.30 back at the till but they said they were 44p cheaper than Asda. Methinks there is some cheating going on here with Tesco.

I used to get vouchers back from Tesco and I've receiving none since they started this automatic system and this is the first time I've done a manual comparison. Has anyone else done a manual comparison and what was the outcome? :(

  • I found something similar with the comparison of prices at Morrisons and in the past I've found they only compare those prices they feel like comparing even though I know different. Try e-mailing their CS. That's what I did and they keep saying they're looking into it but if you believe that you believe anything.

  • Ailey, I agree that I think Tesco are cheating on their price promise - so much so, I have saved a copy of the detailed breakdown of my shopping yesterday (in case they change/remove it), and sent them a disgruntled email (copy-pasted below). I'm not organised enough to do much more than this, but thought I'd pop it on here in case anyone else wanted to pick up on it and make a fuss too. (I have been an unregistered lurker on MSE for sometime before getting 'round to registering this morning in order to post this!)

    Dear Tesco,

Thank you very much for your ‘Price Promise’ email, I am aware that you have added a disclaimer regarding its accuracy and completeness at the bottom, however I feel it important to point out that the cherry-picked prices, misrepresentation of results, and in the case of at least one product (Dorot Garlic – which was also £1 in my local ASDA on the day of purchase )- outright lies, harm your company’s image in my eyes far more than the notion of saving money the ‘Price Promise’ initially appears to offer.

As a very busy home-educating mother of four, I only clicked on the link to see the detailed results as I was incredulous of the assertion in the email that I had saved money shopping at Tesco compared with ASDA, Sainsbury's and Morrisons as on this occasion I had chosen to shop with Tesco purely for convenience, knowing that ASDA would have been cheaper overall.

I am shocked that your company would attempt to mislead customers like this, and am concerned for the financial welfare of less savvy consumers or those too busy to check the way you have conducted this so-called comparison. I would like to see a review of the way you conduct your comparisons for this ‘Price Promise’, or else for you to stop using it – and lying to your customers forthwith.

    Yours Sceptically,

    (ListerMum)
