Quite right too..why should some pay for their license and some not..be good idea if this was also done with tv's as well

Why "Quite right"? There is no legal requirement to have a TV licence for owning a DVD player. Not even for owning a TV! The only requirement for a licence is if you use your TV to watch (i.e. receive) live television broadcasts.

    But NOT a DVD player!

You do NOT need a TV licence to watch DVDs on a TV.

P.S. For those going for the multiregion DVD player be warned that USA dvd are in NTSC format and will only "play" if your TV is capable of displaying an NTSC signal....Old TV's (greater than 7- 8 years) may not have this capability. Newer TVs, most do have this feature as standard these days.

To clarify.... the DVD will "play" in all "multiregion-capable" dvd players....but your TV might not pick up the signal.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is this thread not all about buying a DVD player? And has nothing to do with buying a TV, and no-one had mentioned buying a TV in the thread at the point you wrote post #11

The price of Cod is £4.30 Kg

And specs are just as cheap as you obviously need them !!!! :rotfl:

Post 10 : Quite right too..why should some pay for their license and some not..be good idea if this was also done with tv's as well

specifically referring to TV's - that's a TELEVISION to you, NOT a DVD player !!!!

It never takes long before some !!!! comes along !!

Do i need any special Divx software to convert the AVI files to burn to CD/DVD?

Most Dvd players do not play .AVI files (some (few) do, and you can just burn an .avi file to a dvdr for these players) All other dvd players will require the file to be converted to Mpeg 4 and then burned in a "dvd format", you will require special software to do this.... google will help you find some

"AVI to DVD software" ought to do it &
"free avi to dvd software" or
"freeware avi to dvd software" would be worth searching aswell.

That should be converted to Mpeg 2.

Nero Vision will convert from AVI to MPEG2 DVD-Video, many other programs out there too.

Can this dvd player play home recorded dvds?

    Many thanks

You will only find this out by trying it, because players can have no trouble playing home recorded dvds from machine 'A' but might have trouble playing those recorded from machine 'B' It's all a bit of an unknown quantity at the moment, and is unlikely to change until a few years have passed and manufacturers have ironed out all the problems associated with compatibility and the different formats.

Also add in that some players may not like certain 'brands' of disc and other players not like certain other 'brands'.

I have bought the Tesco one for my daughter, it's a very basic model which is perfect for her. Works just fine, she's had it since before christmas and she's not known for looking after her stuff so that bodes well for Tesco!

Does anybody know a code that would get free postage for the tesco one?!!
    Thanks in anticipation.
