Ok, so we all know that a bargain is only a bargain if you "need" it.

No, a bargain can be a bargain if you WANT it. Money saving isn't about only buying the things you need, it's about getting the things you need or want at the best price.

i do get some bargains on the normal shelf occasionally..you have to look very careful at the SEL's ...or if you are not fussy you can go to the reduction shelves too.. I popped into my local morrisons (which i rarely do as I dont like the store) and in their reduced section I found some heinz soup reduced to 20p because the cans got damaged so I stocked up on those...perfect for when my daughter gets home before me and feels hungry! I dont go out expecting bargains but when I do I am very happy...like its christmas day everytime I find some!
im tray not davey...pinched my hubbys account!!!

I must stop buying smellies..well until i spot a bargain!
never turn a bargain /freebie down you just never know when you need it :D
  • My favourite shop these days for any bargains is B & M. Recently I have had some excellent buys all reduced to 10p! Including a stack of Baxters soup (Red Lentil & Vegetable), Campbell's lentil & bacon soup, mustard, English Provender sauce, cartons of Heinz tomato frito (almost cleared the shelf!), Jaffa Cakes, Breakfast biscuits and Heinz salad dressing.

As far as Supermarkets go, good bargains in these parts are few and far between these days.

Too many other people after bargains

I've never yet come across anything that is more than marginally reduced, either in last (fairly wealthy) area or in current (good bit poorer) area.

The whole idea of bargains rests rather on being prepared to eat anything going...so I don't hold out any hopes in that direction personally...as I won't do that.

You have to be in the right part of the country to get bargains imo and be prepared to eat "whatever comes up" (ie rather than having decided what way you personally eat and hoping something will come up that comes within your personal limitations).

I have quite strict limitations on what I eat (I eat very little processed food). This means that a lot of the stuff on the reduces shelf is no good to me however it also makes it easier to focus in on what I am looking for. I regularly find veg and fruit reduced and sometimes organic meat may be cheaper (but unfortunately not cheap). I think it depends how much you are willing to go into the shops at the right time.
Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie. Aug: £10 Hipp Organic vouchers, powerpack. September: Sunglasses. October: £30 poundland vouchers.

I love lists like these, my favourite meals are those that are made up of random things that I happen to enjoy eating but you wouldn't necessarily call a meal. In our family we call it a hotpotch supper and no one complains!

Bit early today, most things hadn't been done yet, so just got:

Chicken & chorizo sandwich reduced to £1.77 from £3 (my boyfriend's favourite, or we wouldn't have normally bought it for that price)
Grated cheddar with crispy fried onion reduced to 70p from £2
Pack of 4 American maple syrup pancakes reduced to 13p from £1
Pack of 4 American toffee pancakes reduced to 13p from £1
Pack of 4 blueberry muffins reduced to 20p fro £1.50

Looking forward to a pancake breakfast Saturday morning!

I go for the meat at tesco. Their 3 for £10 are usually reduced to between £1.60 and £2.60 at around 5pm. So you get 3 for say £7.80 THEN they take off £2 as part of the 3 for £10 (items are £4 individually). Works out about half price. Yesterday I got 3 packs of pork shoulder steaks for £1.57 each, ended up being £2.68 for all 3 with the £2 discount, or 89p each!
