There is always someone worse off than ourselves for whatever reason but do not worry about getting your ys goodies, and we all use this site to help each other save money.0 -
One of our local Sainsbury's gives away its left over food to our local foodbank.

In mr W, if they have an offer on, (picked these prices as maths not my strong point) say £2.50 each or buy 2 for £4.00, the offer still applies to reduced items.... So, say you buy 2 reduced pizzas at £1.00 each that were on an offer you would still get the £1.50 knocked off at the till so in effect pizzas only cost you 50p. You will often find that you will be paid for taking items away... At Christmas, I bought two reduced item on a buy one get one free deal, -at £1.99, then £3.99 (the original offer price) came off at the till paying me £2.00 to take the items away.... You need to know what offers are on in store and sometimes I bump up to offer with a full price item, this means the discounts count against the full priced item making that reduced...0

Well, I tried my hand at abit of YS shopping this evening and I'm quite pleased. I got a small beef roasting joint reduced from £6.67 to £4.54 and a 6pk pork escalops reduced from £4 to £2.69. I will be trying this again/ more often- noting the timings you have mentioned. Previously, it's only been chance that I've picked up YS.Minimalist

Good haul from Mr M tonight at about 8.30pm, which was a good job as I was faced with stretching a waning £60 (intended to last 2 weeks for 2 adults and 1 cat) shop to almost 3 weeks! Anyway I got
Red chillies 25p
President Rondele cheese 25p
Egg & cress sandwich 25p
4 pack of Tiger rolls 9p
3 pack of Pain Rustica 9p
5 large baguettes at 5p each (this sounds very greedy but I had only half a loaf of bread left at home and still left at least 10 baguettes on the shelf, my 5 are safely cut up and frozen)
Brioche bunny 5p
Millet flour 1kg 45p
Samo seeds/rice 15p
Tamarind 15p
Cinnamon sticks 25p
I didn't know what the Samoa seeds were but on researching at home they are a fruit which is a much healthier alternative to rice so might go back for a few more as they were so cheap.
Does anyone use tamarind and cinnamon sticks? I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them but OH and I have just recently stopped buying meat in our food shop so we've been experimenting loads with different recipes.
Happy bargaining!Started Comping 25th September 2013.

1. Because they are more likely to prevent it happening if they lose money. The goose that laid the golden egg and all that.
2. They are less inclined to sell these reduced items - as it costs them.
3. It's embarrassing - even for me who is pretty thick skinned at the best of times.
Having said all that I don't have too much sympathy for a company that tries to save money by not updating their IT systems to calculate discounts appropriately.
Only once have I been caught out. I had got most of my shopping and reminded the discounter that there were some items that did not have a 2nd discount. So I went through the till, loaded up my trailer and went in again to seek out those remaining yellow items. I bought about 8 items in all and they ended up paying me 79p for items whose full price was around £15. The check out lad was embarrassed, I was embarrassed and my cover had been blown. Well it was probably blown already if truth be told.
The problem is that you don't always know what's on special offer.0 -

I'm sure you don't behave like an animal though? Most people are stuggling my dh has only just got back into work and to be honest we spent the majority of last year with 3 kids too in the same boat as you however i never once started fighting with people or being rude to staff totally disgusting behaviour no matter how desperate you are for a pizza.
My point being though if you were that hungry you'd have thought those dessperate need to feed their children types would have taken the fish and veg!
There is no reason to fight over stuff-push elderly people around ect. I'd rather walk away and come back later/tomorrow.
You really don't need to tell me to look at the bigger picture i've been there done that..0
