Reduced bargains and yellow stickers shopping

I never feel embarrassed having ys in my trolley I feel sorry for the other shoppers throwing stuff into their trolley and getting ripped off left right and centre. I like to walk out of a supermarket knowing that they have lost money on me.
YL shopping is not for everyone. It requires a keen eye, a head for figures, patience, tenacity, a level of fitness and time and not everyone has these. However I'm still amazed by the shoppers who take items from the in tray when they can see that the item is about to be reduced and put in the out tray. Some people indeed do have more money than sense.0 -
OH popped into Mr T's on the way home from metal detecting tonight and got a pack of finger rolls for 1p so hot dogs for lunch tomorrow :j0

I think that many people don't want to appear poor or 'needy' and so are embarrassed to look at or buy YL items - it's the same with many people not wanting to go into 'cheap' stores or charity shops and hiding their packaging, and for some there is a need to be able to compete with others i.e. keeping up with the Jones'. I know numerous people who won't even ask for their leftover food to go in restaurants and would prefer to buy a new portion to take away. Personally I don't have a problem with buying YL items (if I can find them!) but I remember being embarrassed by having to shop at Netto as a young teen, thankfully I grew out of it but that mentality can stick and does especially with cultures or communities where pride and reputation, even amongst strangers is important. It's sad and annoying/frustrating, especially if those people are in difficult financial circumstances as they are cutting off their nose to spite their face and even worse if they are making it difficult for others to look into cheaper and more value for money items.
I totally disagree with calling YL shopping degrading names such as 'tramp/benefit buffet' and reading them here is the first time I've come across them. I think it shows ignorance to the many circumstances within which people would need or want to buy such items as well as a a lack of sympathy for those who are impoverished and for whom YL items might even be out of reach for. As for the buffet bit - ha, plenty of those people have probably been to and enjoyed buffets both for the food and the 'bargain' element.0 -

I tend to do my weekly shop on a week night as it is quieter and more ys to be found. I have had some realy good bargains this year.
However I went to mr T's on Monday evening and came away really angry. I wandered up the chiller aisle where the reduced section is and there are 2 shoppers there and a lady reducing the items down to silly money. I'm talking 30p/40p for ready meals. But do you think I could get in to get anything? The 2 shoppers I think were mother and daughter and were working together. Both had their trolleys at angles as to put people off getting near. As soon as the lady put the cheaper sticker on the item the women took it in turns to have EVERYTHING that was there. I just wanted a couple of things but couldn't get near.
When I buy ys items I might buy a couple of things but not the whole lot. It was so unfair. I watched those women go from there to the fruit and veg bit trying to haggle the man into reducing the things more. The women were in the store at least an hour and all they had in their trollies were reduced items. I don't think I will go on a Monday evening again. :mad:Saving to buy a house in 2013 - £7435 / [STRIKE]£7000[/STRIKE] now £10000 goal - no 16 in "Save 12k in 2013 Challenge" :T GOAL achieved 30/9/13 - £10030. Went in to Waitrose about 2pm and they were doing the 2nd markdown, no one even looked twice at the reduced section!
Wasn't super cheap but filled my freezer, had a few looks from some of my fellow customers who were buying the same thing just 4x as much!! The lady at the till just kept staring at me in horror lol!
I am not bothered!! I found I can try loads of new bits and bobs and same a bloody huge amount of cash!
love it0 -

Just say 'Excuse me' and angle their trolley so it's out the way. Saying that, there was a guy reducing items in Mr T's and this customer was stood with his trolley blocking the reduced trolley taking things practically out the guy's hands. I wonder why people are so protective of their trolley when they're YS shopping lol.
I've noticed in the Mr T's here, that people are allowed to take items directly from the reduced trolley. Asda, you're not allowed. Far better system imo as the person in Asda can reduce a number of items keeping them on the trolley, then put a stack of items on the shelves all at once, meaning a number of people can grab an item, if you're quick that is lol. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0
