  • totally pot luck in my local shops too, last night did get lucky in morrisons, 19p for chunky chips and 19p for big cesar salad bowl - both were lovely and went great with pizza tea :) - i just today got myself a table top freezer (been without for a year as flat so tiny) so im very much looking forward to stocking it with yellow sticker meat etc

  • My local Tescos has nothing, I've been at 7.30 and again just before closing, I've noticed they remove all the bread from the deli from the shelves but they don't reduce it and put it out. Never any meat reduced.

Morrisons are better, get loads of bread, French sticks etc for pence that I throw in the freezer, bought some muller lights for 9p each last week, blocks of feta cheese for 45p but never seem to see any meat reduced?

The big T extra near me, I never see meat reduced (not that I buy much anyway, only eat it once or twice a week), but I was in central London on Monday in a T express at about 4.30pm and they marked everything in the reduced section down to 75% off. There was absolutely tons of it - Tesco finest sausages for 69p a packet about 20 packets, not a single soul apart from me was even looking . Plus beef joints and steaks, you name it.
I was a bit gutted - I'm defrosting my fridge and freezer and going away this weekend so I couldn't take advantage. I could've stocked up for a month, longer perhaps. (and dragged my meat feast home on the tube lol!)
I've noticed if you go yellow stickering in posh areas there's less competition for the bargains, well that's the case here in London.

Went into Waitrose around 6 p.m. and was armed with my wife's 10% off card (spouses are allowed to use). Got the following:

Tandoori Naans 49p, 2 Calabria pizzas, £1.29 each, 2 x cottage pie and 1 mac cheese all 79p, Sandwiches all for 39p each - 2 cheddar cheese ploughmans, 2 brie and grape, 1 seafood cocktail, 1 cheddar & celery and 1 egg mayo. 2 unearthed bean tapas - 69p each, 1 tuna nicoise salad 49p and 1 big bunch coriander 29p.

It should have come to £46.76 but I was charged £9.55! However when I submitted the 10% off card I got it down to £4.95 (£4.60 off) :j

At around 6:40 headed off toTesco waited quite a while but eventually I got mushrooms for 15p, Veg soup mix 18p, 2 x Crab linguine 88p, tub of olives £1.13, tub of stuffed vine leaves £1.13, 2 fresh poussin £1.50 each, stewing steak 82p, Gingsters pasty and steak slice 25p each, Brussels pate, Haslet, 2 lots of red leicester chutney cheese and loads of stuffed turkey all at 25% of price for total of £9.91,

Then back on the bike (with difficulty!) at 7:30 pm. I went back to Waitrose (8 pm close) as earlier I had spotted 2 items that had a sell by date of 27/3 that were not reduced. I pointed them out to the discounter and got a Whole Gressingham duck for £2.06 and a Waitrose slow cooked rolled Beef Brisket for £2.29. Some lovely Chard 10p, cauli & broc florets 25p, box of baby toms 39p, and wild rocket 29p. It should have been £27.54 but I was charged £2.58 (the card got me £2.80 off).

There was a lot more in Tesco I could have got but I wouldn't have been able to carry it/ have room in the fridge/freezer for it and I wouldn't have got back to Waitrose in time. As it is I have probably bought a fraction too much - although a lot is freezable.

I haven't been having much luck with the yellow stickering just lately, also been managing on what I have in the cupboard and freezer, as well as a few bits from the discount stores in town. However, I had a good haul in Tes&co last night, worth the two hours hanging around. This lot should have been £52.20, I paid £5.43. I don't eat meat, but eat loads of veg. Raspberries on my cereals this morning. :D
Here is a breakdown. Real price in brackets.
    Mushrooms x 6 = 52p (£5.20)
    Spinach x 1 = 20p (£2.00)
    Salad leaves x 2 = 20p (£2.00)
    Brocolli x 4 = 72p (£7.00)
    Brussel sprouts x 5 = 90p (£8.75)
    Brocolli and carrots x 1 = 13p (£1.25)
    Mixed veg stewpack x 1 = 9p (90p)
    Prepared fruit x 4 = 56p (£5.60)
    Prepared fruit x 2 = 30p (£3.00)
    Raspberries x 4 = 80p (£8.00)
    Melon portion x 1 = 13p (£1.25)
    Advocado pears (2pack) x 2 = 40p (£4.00)
    Iceberg lettuce x 1 = 10p (£1.00)
    Bread x 1 = 25p (£1.00)
    Spicy dip x 1 = 13p (£1.25)
It was quiet, only me and another woman, we had the pick of what came out on the trolley. The girl marking it down was a bit miserable though. Never mind, I had a smile on my face.

That's a lot of Veg and Fruit! Will you freeze some of that Ilona and if so will you prepare it in any way?

Hi, I've made a large pan of veggie stew, that will be frozen in margarine tubs. I gave my friend some broccoli, mushrooms, and fruit. The rest I shall eat every day, starting with the food which will go off the soonest. I don't mind eating the same meal every day for a week. I eat the mushrooms and spinach raw or cooked. The sprouts will be the last to be eaten because they will be ok for a week or more.

I had some raspberries on my breakfast cereal, mushrooms in a garlic sauce on a bed of raw spinach for lunch, some fruit after lunch, and a plate of steamed brocolli, sprouts, and carrots for my dinner. It will be similar tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that. I never get bored with vegetables, and I never throw anything away.

Could be a few yellow sticker items on offer today folks, with supermarkets closed tomorrow. Only thing though is that most of them, they are here anyway, are open until 10pm tonight so the best bargains are probably going to be quite late.

I have just returned from Morries where they had started reducing their stuff a third time. I have had lots of fresh fish for 19p and 35p, smoked haddock, smoked cod, salmon and prawns.
