It all depends on your credit record, some people have opened 4 accounts in the same day, others have got a single account and an attempt to open a second deferred, others have got the first one declined.

This is sensible and what I thought after already upgrading! I'm not too fussed as I'm likely to need worldwide and hence will pay for travel insurance anyhow.

If anyone has already upgraded like me, they say you can cancel without fuss within 21 days (you could instead open a new FlexDirect alongside the FlexAccount).

I haven't yet read the whole thread (still catching up after over 11 days absence from forum ) but did you know that you can just pay an additional amount to extend the 'free' European travel insurance to Worldwide cover?
  • I've currently opened 3 flexdirect accounts, applying for them 1 day after each other. At the end of each application it gave a summary of what I would get with each account, one of the terms being 5% gross interest! My old flex account is due to be upgraded to a flexdirect this weekend, so that I'll have 4 of them in total. I'll keep you guys posted on whether I get 5% gross interest on all accounts.....if I don't then this will be a breach of conditions on their part....

Misleading - yes, breach of conditions - I don't think so.

In the Terms & Conditions it states
    "FlexDirect conditions
These additional conditions supplement and amend the Nationwide current account agreement. In the event of any inconsistency between these additional conditions and the Nationwide current account agreement, these condition will apply."

    Then in Clause 1.5
"1.5 You will only be entitled to one introductory rate or offer (where applicable) on a Nationwide Group current account product. If you have previously held the same Nationwide current account product in the last 12 months, you will not be entitled to the introductory rate or offer under this agreement."

There has been a lot of debate whether this will actually be enforced. Fingers crossed it won't

    No it won't.
When you signed up you agreed to the T&Cs. You will not expect all the T&Cs to pop up when you press the go button.
Why are people perpetuating this myth that any of these abbreviated screens represent the full T&Cs?
    You're all mad.

Why wouldn't Terms and Conditions be enforced unless they were illegal?

I opened my 5% account on Sunday eveneing (3rd March) online but its 7th march and i haven't heard anything from Nationwide (not even an email confirming everything has gone through).

How much time does it take for them to get back?

I was beginning to wonder the same thing.
Opened the account online 2nd march , unlike what some have said the closing window confirmed the 5% and the account was opened but they would need to write to me with further details . I assumed because i was a new customer, not heard a tickety boo. Doesn't exactly instill confidence in their organisation.

Ordered a computor game for my boy ,yesterday afternoon, it arrived in the post this morning, companies can do it when they want to. Some companies obviously want to do business, some just dont care.

TBH, I'd rather Nationwide paid me 5% interest than spending lots of money making their systems & procedures spew out one-off documents faster.

Edit: just received the first lot of mail for the accounts I applied for last Saturday. Huge wad of paper that all went straight into the recycling bin. Such a waste. No card / card reader yet, but I can make internal transactions with the accounts (and deposits were possible straight after finishing the application) because I already have online access.

I have also not read the entire thread, so may have missed this previously. How do you do this? Thanks.
