There are size limits now - it's not a new thing. I can see some disasters if people expect couriers like collect + to be poised for a big increase in business.
Anyway, ballistic b has written to the beeb. That should sort it.

My thoughts exactly. MyHermes etc are going to be swamped.

Regarding compensation it has been mentioned that it is dropping from 46 to 20 Pounds but signed for is going up to 50 Pounds. Not sure if the same applies to international.

Now I have my tape measure out I have been quite shocked at how many of my ordinary vintage lines are larger than 16cms in one direction.

Bother, I hadn't thought it affected quite so many...

Is the compensation for mail sent special delivery guaranteed/easy to claim, as opposed to something like recorded mail?

Most of my items sell for around the £50 mark, usually sent recorded, although royal mail have lots a few of my items in recent months, and they are making it very difficult to get my money back on the last 2 items. (you'd think it would be easy, bearing in mind that their own system confirms that nothing has been delivered!)

As a result, I now always send special delivery (which eats most of the profit), but if they lose one of my items, is the process harder for them to drag their heels and absolve themselves of any responsibility using special/tracked?

I haven't had to claim for a recorded for many years but when I last did it was declined for some spurious reason. However I have recently claimed for a special delivery (postage charge only) that arrived a day late, they said they were going to speak to the recipient, (which they did not do) but I did get a cheque for the full postage back in about 3 weeks.

You forgot the important bit which a lot of us are relying on- the exceptions to the small parcel 8cm rule.

I was just reading the myriad of threads on the power seller board and the one thing that has been overlooked is that big sellers with Certain sorts of RM contracts will not be paying anywhere near the same rates as the rest of us. There are more than a few sellers saying that they will be no worse of than they are now and in some cases will be charged less than half the postage costs of their non contract rivals.

I was 'talking' online with an acquaintance and they like me have spent part of the day trying to force things into a 6 inch box to see what fits and what doesn't. One of their lines is a baby item that is very squishy but light, they can just about squash it into a box with help from someon else, but reckon the recipient will have a heart attack when they peel off the Sellotape and this things springs out at them like a jack in the box!

I can remember there being a couple surveys early 2012 about these potential changes

Just more hoops to jump though before pricing up items to list on ebay

I genuinely laughed out loud at that :D

Sadly, it's not a laughing matter. Prices are going up and the service is getting worse. Having trouble claiming compensation, and things being delivered to wrong addresses (a neighbour brought round a dvd the other day). Some may argue it's not, but the one thing they can't deny, is that it's getting more complicated. Some people have a pathological need to defend the RM. It must be getting harder and harder.
