You might be alright with the small items - see post 8 for an exception to the 8cm rule.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. oh dear. i sell the odd item and always post via royal mail, event hought the cost has been pricey and on the up and up, i took the hit as it was convenient to me. now will have to look into courier service. from the post above i see there's a myhermes drop off not far away. may have a look see and i'm definitely off to courier thread now.0

Well, having fully investigated the new prices I've decided that I'm going to have to discontinue one of my lines as the postage will be increasing from £2.20 to £5.20 and it will just make the item too expensive overall. I don't live near any drop off points for other couriers and due to my regular job wouldn't be able to have the parcels picked up. The only saving grace is that it is my slowest moving line so hopefully won't have too big an impact.0

I like to do jigsaws - I buy them on ebay and sell them on again after I have done them.
I quickly measured the boxes, and as long as they are wrapped right, they will be under the 8 cm.
They typically cost £3.50 to post 2nd class now, as a 750g -1000g packet.
As far as I can make out, they'll now go as a small parcel, at a cost of £2.60 up to 1000g.
So that is actually a win situation.
But as for the rest of it, I'll have to look very carefully at what i'm selling. Anything large and lightweight could be a problemEarly retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
Oh for gods sake thanks again royal mail for messing with my head!
This for me is very bad-most of my items are light but bulky-ish well bigger than the 8cm or 16cm rule.
Currently 75% of my parcels go at £2.20 now they will be £5.20!
Royal mail can do one. I'd rather have the free tracking that hermes offers and the extra £5 compo cover.
Are royal mail trying to shoot themselves in the foot?
It won't be worth the gamble for me that the po staff will know what they are doing and not just charge the £5.20 as standard. I can't be doing with going to the po to be told it's £5.20 then going back home to print out hermes labels instead. GRRR0 -
Do myhermes ever actually pay compensation for lost and damaged items?
I've heard so many horror stories about them on this very site (among others), i'm surprised that they seem to be the first alternative that comes to peoples mind.0 -

You'll only ever see posts by unhappy customers, i am sure there are thousands of happy ones too.
I have used them for years for my small business with only 1 or 2 problems out of a few hundred. I've never had a parcel go missing unlike with rm.
You get tracking with all the parcels regardless if you pay extra for a signature or not.
It's the next cheapest as far as i am aware.0 -
If I am understanding this correctly a small parcel can be up to 16cm x 16cm x 16 cm- so my supplier is offering 6 inch cube boxes which should be fine within that limit? So if I get a stock of them I can actually use those as my own measuring guage, if I can safely wrap my goods in them then they can go Royal Mail small parcels, if I can't keep within that size I use a courier- that makes it a bit simpler when changing my postage over next month ready for the changes.

Unusually I'm actually better off by this. We send one parcel that is between 750g and 1kg and drops from £3.50 to £2.60, it's one of our better sellers too.
It does look like some pointless changes on size though, seems like they'll be more costly to implement the changes..0 -
