Sky don't support your own router this was their response to me in the last week when my Internet stopped working the day after Sky migrated from the O2 network to theirs.

That's always been their stance. They will allow you to use your own router but they won't support it.
and bill you for two months in advance including Line rental, not having Sky TV, and unlimited Broadband.

They don't bill you for 2 months in advance - it's always 1 month in advance. What may happen on joining is that you may pay up to two months - ie the previous month depending on your date of joining and your billing date - plus 1 month in advance.
Sky might work for some customers but if you want flexibility and a fair price for service I would go elsewhere

Can't grumble at my price of BB and Line Rental for £15 for the whole year.

IMHO the Sky broadband customer service was indeed very poor for the first couple of years, however its now very good.

O2 /BE users have nothing to fear, its not as though they have been bought by Talk Talk.
I agree, now the sky customer services improved a lot. They repond to their customers very efficiently. Try to call them through contacttelephonenumbers. They will connect your call directly to their department.

    Went live today.

Came home, checked and as expected no connection.

Went into Netgear DG834GT, put in the settings available on Sky for 3rd party routers.

Router rebooted, and currently getting 4090 kbps down and 606 kbps up.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Yes. Did they not quote you a range rather than a specific speed? My speed has dropped since switching to Sky, but others have reported an increase, so I guess it's pot luck.

The Sky welcome letter suggests I should get between 2.6 Mbps and 7Mbps.

Sounds about right. I started around there too. Make sure you leave the router switched on over the next 10 days and DLM will kick in.

Mine has settled on 6272kbps down and 797kbps up.

Router is on 24/7 anyway, but 3 power cuts in last couple of weeks. :)

Question, I've been £5.38 in credit with O2 for the last 12mths, while I was enjoying free BB.

Just wondering, before phoning them, would this be credited to me or my Sky account?

How has the money side worked for anyone else?

p.s. text yesterday to say O2 will be taking £5.59 from me on the 18th. Then text today saying sorry you're leaving, please ignore if moving to Sky, hoping it all sorts itself out ok.

It's credited directly back to you via the DD set up by O2. It will be done when the DD would normally have been taken after your next O2 bill.

Sky will also set up your own account with them to take your money.

Sky did check/verify my DD details when I 'let' them persuade me with £75 credit.

Just checked, payment day changed, and they've taken £3.74 from the £75 credit.

A tentative, so far so good. :)

I just got moved over to Sky from O2 on 4th March. Speeds have had absolutely no consistency. At one point, I was only getting 1.50Mbps then next minute it's up to 12.64Mbps. Upload speeds are terrible - around about 0.8Mbps.

Just read that speeds can be intermittant for the first 10 days and not to switch the router off - I had a red internet light on the night before last and switched my router off to try and get rid of it - will I have knackered up whatever it is that they do for your speeds?

I had to restart once my router during the first week and it didn't seem to affect the speed progression. I have to say that I am quite happy so far with speed and stability.
