Sky buyout of O2 Broadband

I just want to post the outcome of my calls and thank Quentin and jem16 for their input.
The double charging seems to be a problem for O2 due to the transfer and Sky have confirmed it is £7.50/m for the first year. Can't really be bothered finding an alternative for a short period before moving so I'll stick with that for now and hope I can get a cheap fibre deal when I relocate.0 -
The Sky advisor said that they could see that I was on 5 Mbps with O2, but should get around 7 Mbps with Sky.
Is this just marketing BS?
Yes. Did they not quote you a range rather than a specific speed? My speed has dropped since switching to Sky, but others have reported an increase, so I guess it's pot luck.Stompa0 -
Had to call them to get my MAC code and they did me a good deal for 12 months, which has stopped me from moving over to BT.0

They did quote a range, various checkers estimate me at 3.5 Mbps to 5.5Mbps, Sky said 4.5 Mbps to 7 Mbps.
Currently about 4.7 Mbps on O2 but tweaked to about 6.2 Mbps.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Really unhappy with this. My broadband swapped over to SKY from O2 last Wednesday. since then, first few days have suffered appalling low speeds less than 1.0 per day. Even when O2 reduced my speed for going over the 20MB per month it was still quicker than Sky.
I Phoned Sky Customer services and they suggested might be problem with my phone line but obviously mentioned never had any problems with O2. The Customer service rep tested my phoneline and that seemed okay. He is going to send me a new telephone filter so he said, but not hopeful it will solve the problem. He initially fobbed me off stating that all broadband speeds would likely be slower for the first 10 days transferring to Sky but when I mentioned that I was getting a speed of less than 1.0 MB a day he soon changed his tune.
I will keep in touch on this to see if any improvement0 -
His advice regarding the first 10 days is correct. They start you slow and increase the speed.
Wait till they have completed the automatic testing (ie after 10 days) before complaining.0 -
My bb and phone has now finally been transferred fully to $ky from 02.
One annoying thing i've noticed is that on my old 02 account (and new sky account), they have removed the details of how long i've had my contract, and therefore when it expired (leaving me on a rolling monthly contract).
The cynic in me thinks they don't want you to have too much info, especially leaving info.
Is that unfair of me ?0 -
You are on a new contract. Were you not told whether it is 12month minimum term (if you take perks) or that you are free to leave at any time ? If not, ring them and ask. The call is free.0

I've had no other contact with sky, other than receiving their letters over the past year or so, regarding the transfer.
My bill is exactly the same as before.
I will give them a ring.0 -
Hi All,
Just wanted to add my two cents.
Sky don't support your own router this was their response to me in the last week when my Internet stopped working the day after Sky migrated from the O2 network to theirs. This contradicts their letters sent to O2 customers stating you can keep your own router! That is if it was the original O2 router not your own vendor brand. They then send out a free replacement, not worth it really when you see that they then hike up the price of the service, and bill you for two months in advance including Line rental, not having Sky TV, and unlimited Broadband. Not for me I've cancelled thank you very much.
Sky might work for some customers but if you want flexibility and a fair price for service I would go elsewhere just like I am.
Thanks0
