think the hsbc account you were referring to was a regular saver... where is this is instant access

No, the HSBC account was a 6% current account on upto 2.5K, and it only needed £500/month putting through it.

If you're going to post the R85 forms, here's the freepost address to send it to. Last updated: 18/02/2013 09:07:11 so should be the correct address.

Just spent half an hour opening the account on the phone cos I was told they could register the account for gross interest if I did it that way (no R85 form to fill in). Turns out they were talking rubbish and the sales person had no idea what I was talking about. She kept saying "we can't give you a gross income [sic] until you pay in money to the account" and "I can't advise you on interest", !!!!!!? She even asserted at one point that there was no need to register this particular account for gross interest, and I asked "well how do you know who's eligible and who's not then?" and she again repeated the above rubbish.

Could've done it online in 2 minutes if I'd have known I'd have to fill in an R85 either way.

Got £10 in my second FlexDirect. If it turns out you can have many accounts earning interest I'll have to figure out the optimum way to keep my money - I need some in Lloyds TSB for general banking and that only gives 4% if there's £5k+ in there so it may be complicated. :p

If it turns out like that then just move your day to day banking to the nationwide account for a year. Means optimal interest earning 😄

Does anyone have experience of how long it should take for the account to show in online banking. I applied on Wednesday, and was accepted (it gave me the account number and sort code), but it's not yet showing?

Hmm, ok, thanks. Guess I'll just give it a few days and see what happens (I'm also an existing customer).

I am an existing customer and I opened 4 accounts on launch day.

I opened 1 in the morning and three late afternoon. The three that I opened in the afternoon showed up next working day. The earlier one showed up another two working days later.

I opened four accounts within a space of around 15 minutes.
The first, third and fourth accounts I opened appeared on on-line banking the next day.
The second account I opened appeared a couple of days later.
    I am an existing customer.
