Little known, but according to Radio 5, the whole 10p thing has now been dropped.

Dunno if true. Again, it's one of those things that one MP states and no one else will back up. No minister want's to announce it's dropped, probably due to fear of the whole "u-turn" thing they have been lambasting the lib dem and tories for.

But no one will say it's still a promise, let alone policy either.

Pressurised on 5live, the labour MP simply said they were not in government so it's not their place to have to answer the questions, it's the governments place.
So what....its kite flying with the electorate and happens all the time.
Here's what the UK polling site says on reflection:-

' Suffice to say, the result in Eastleigh does not show the Lib Dems retaining their support in their own seats (their drop in support was completely in line with national polling), it does not necessarily show anything about patterns and extent of tactical voting (since this is a by-election and they are extremely unusual in terms of campaign intensity and having no direct impact on who actually governs), it does not necessarily show Labour face problems in the south (it’s perfectly normal for a party with no hope of winning to see its support squeezed in a by-election), it does to some extent confirm growing UKIP support… but we knew about that from national polling anyway.'

Its clear the biggest damage has been caused to the tory party morale within parliament.

Well you say so what Moby, but isn't the point that as a labour voter yourself, you won't have a clue what you will be voting for, and neither will labour tell you?

That was my point earlier. It's not just voting for a policy and not getting it with the above 10p example. It's about voting for a policy which may or may not exist, but no one will tell you.

If you don't know (and I say you as an avid labour supporter) what's going on with the 10p thing, which only took an hour to turn from a promise to an ideal, how do others?

Is it any wonder people are turning to other parties, parties which, with leaders like farage, say it straight down the line, every single time.

Angela Eagle is particularly dim. Some might even say a little bit special.

    Found this on her.
In April 2008 Eagle took part in a debate in Parliament on the UK economy in which the Liberal Democrats tabled a motion suggesting that the country was facing an 'extreme bubble in the housing market' and the 'risk of recession'. Eagle responded stating "Fortunately for all of us...that colourful and lurid fiction has no real bearing on the macro-economic reality." In 2009 Jeremy Browne, who led the debate reflected on her comments, stating "A year ago, Angela Eagle’s comments summed up the Government’s delusional attitude. We had been warning for months that we faced a housing market collapse and a serious recession, but ministers did not want to hear it. Their failure to face up to reality left the country dangerously unprepared for the crisis that now confronts us."

Now only shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury .

    OMG

This just sums it all up. How does Labour manage to find such foolish, ill considered folks. Angela Eagle, Chris Leslie, Ed Balls, Ed Milliband, Jim Murphy, Chuka Umuna to name just a few.

These guys are creme de la creme if you know what I mean.

David Cameron will liken this result to a jockey running in the Grand National

No jockey could run as fast as the horses. And the little chaps would have no chance of jumping those big fences.

Did you miss that the Conservatives lost nearly 11,000 votes in this by-election? That's terrible news for the government.

When considering that it's probably also worth considering another statistic. Of the 400+ (485?) bye elections since 1945, this is only the 5th to be won by a member of the ruling party.

Don't get me wrong, I think Labour are strong favourites to win the next election but this result doesn't add to or detract from their chances, especially given the strong showing by a single issue party that will win approximately 0 seats at the next election.

Over analysing one by-election doesn't tell us very much especially when there are micro issues and local issues that none of us know about.

Personally, I think we may have a similar outcome in the next election as before where the majority is very small or we have another coalition.

Was mentioned last night. In the heat of the moment she had to say something. Illustrates how little there is.

    I agree entirely.

There's also the ever-present protest vote. There is no chance that UKIP will poll around 30% in the General Election and there is no chance that the Tories will pick up all of UKIP's votes. UKIP+Tory would have meant a Tory win. The incumbent governing party picking up seats from other parties simply doesn't happen.
