Well, the last one I can remember, the responses were, "Last one seemed too easy so I thought it wouldn't be a proper qualification", or about how he decided it's not what he wanted to do.

The problem is I have a feeling the one time I might put my foot down on a course, or if he applies for a job with a severe paycut because it's his calling, might be the one sector or subject that he really takes to and wants to pursue, so stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Just out of interest, do his family all have degrees etc, and does he not?

No, no one has a degree in his family, I don't have a degree, my family don't have degrees.

Spend some money on an advisor. I was very skeptical of these computer tests you can do to narrow down what jobs you will be good at but some of the professional ones are very accurate. My OH and I had the chance to do one at an event and we had both done (and enjoyed) several of the top five jobs that were selected for us.

You've got to make a choice - give in and keep funding his drifting, put your foot down and be the nasty person who won't let him have his way or leave him and let him manage his own life in future while you find someone better.

Silly question, but how does one go about getting a career advisor? Last time I went to one was one of these 16-21 thingymabobs (Which told me I should be a Trout Farmer...)

Could be, my dad was very much a career bird, as are his parents.

One thing I don't understand is how emphatically he talks about his job, but then the next day he 'hates' it, and then the day after that he's talking emphatically again. He has talked to his dad every now and again about how he dislikes his job, so his dad has gone to some really extraordinary lengths to find other jobs for him, which he doesn't even look at so his dad has just stopped sending him them.

My dad does.. claimed he could run the place/was being promoted etc.. then gets bored and leaves.

So he wants to achieve something, but doesn't know what. Perhaps he needs to do a bit more research and he definitely shouldn't fall for the I could earn X, because there certainly is no guarantee and he's pretty much falling for the sales pitch.

Search for "adult career advice" and see what comes up in your area.

Didn't "trout farming" appeal to you?:rotfl:

Right I'll have a look, next step is getting him to go. Thanks very much for the advice.

No, the other choice as European court of human rights lawyer, which I'm not either! Apparently if you enjoyed the outdoors and liked animals, Trout Farmer was your calling!

Trout farmer or Human Rights Lawyer - what a weird selection!

Like everything else in life, you have to be selective about which tools you use and it doesn't sound as if that quiz was worth bothering with!

Nah this would annoy me too, is he a bit hyperactive by nature? At 30 it's about time he settled in a job, what about a company pension, if he keeps moving jobs he isn't achieving much job security, he's been very lucky in this climate but perhaps it's time to say, this time, is the last time!
