Attitude to customer service in the UK

I understand that there will always be exceptions, but...if you think that customer service in the UK is bad as a whole, you should come to France! I have lived here for the past 5 years nearly, and also speak the language, and still find that customer service here is mostly terrible. Even in independent businesses, people generally treat you with the utmost suspicion for about the first six months of your custom, and will only then begin to show you a modicum of friendliness (assuming you've stuck it out for that long). It's really quite depressing frankly. French husband also agrees with me on this
Yes, but that's the French, now they're definitely a law unto themselves... :rotfl:0 -
Well here's my example of customer service.
In December OH bought a nutcracker and paid a stupid amount for it.
Eating up the last of the nuts this week, it broke.
So I phoned the shop up and all I said was that it had broken and that I wasn't happy especially given the price.
Now without a moments hesitation I was refunded the cost and an apology was given. Now that's what I call service2014 Target;

I love the French, if only we British behaved more like them and refused to tolerate Government's more ridiculous edicts.0

Why the hell are people having a go at the OP for 'moaning?' That's what this ruddy board is for!!!
FWIW, I would also have been a 'bit' peed off, as surely when you are hiring a car, it should be 'ready' for you. It's not a massive big deal no, the things he mentioned: but it is annoying, and when you're paying good money, you should at least have bloomin' screen wash in!
It's laziness and slackness - the problem with the western world, but don't b1tch at him for moaning: that's what the board is for FGS. What gets on my tits, is when we have a hire car or courtesy car, and there's barely enough fuel in it to get us the the damn petrol station! So we always make sure it's pigging empty when we take it back!0 -

I like the French and think they get an unecessary hard time from the rest of the world. I particularly like their air of nonchalance and the "ve do not care what you thick Brits think of us, c'est la vie mon amis. We elped to build you tunnel, we don't need to use it, you come over ere, buy our fabulous wine (because you don't know how to grow your own) and pile all your money into our economy and then you silly !!!!heads go back the same day and get plastered and then we get to watch you all get banged up while you trash your city centre streets"
Oh I adore the French, they're so goddamn smart and sophisticated. They don't need to give good customer service, the Brits pile over there anyway...0 -

If you do a quick search on the OP's previous posts, it might give you a little insight into why people have taken the attitude they have2014 Target;

I personally work in customer service and findit unfair that one person does something wrong and all of a sudden I see a topic title insulting ME (as a UK customer service person) even though I have done nothing wrong and always provide exemplary customer service. We are all people no matter our jobs and I think certain customers sometimes forget that.Hi. I'm a Board Guide on the Gaming, Consumer Rights, Ebay and Praise/Vent boards. I don't feel that it is a fact that the whole customer service industry has gone down hill as such. I feel that peoples aspirations on how they want ( or sometimes demand) how they are dealt with are sometimes totally unreal.
People seem to be demanding their rights a lot more now, but don't seem to be able to substantiate their claims properly, usually by trying to 'bend' some legislation into working for them, when in real life it doesn't. The amount of times I have been lied to over the past few years by customers is amazing. The amount of times customers have been proven to have lied is amazing too.
Start being honest and realistic in your complaints, then people will start treating you with the respect that you hope for.
BTW, it is up to the driver to check the car is roadworthy, before setting off, although not good service, it isn't their fault if you get pulled up.0 -
