Teenage son question....
Comments
-
My mum died when i was 4- my Dad ordered me a book- FROM MY HEADMASTER when I was 10 - a Miriam Stoppard book, it was in a brown paper bag and my dad slid it to me in the car, like a drugs deal!
I was horrified beyond belief but I read it that night and took it to school to show the pictures to my mates in the playground:j:A 17/10/07-Started Rosemary Conley :ATotal loss so far= 4 stone 7lbs!In the magazine Sept 08:T0 -
awww lol
my eldest son is 11 later this month
we are always very open in this house regarding sex / puberty etc and anything he doesnt understand he can ask us
we have bought him books to read too
dont be embarrased, better he finds out things from you / his dad than hearing things in school ( which are wrong ! etc ) just let him know he can come to you0 -
we bought these two books for my ds 12 last year.
Whats happening to my body http://www.amazon.co.uk/Whats-Happening-My-Body-Book/dp/1557044430/ref=sr_1_3/203-9220403-2639167?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1178617593&sr=8-3
and what's going on down there http://www.amazon.co.uk/Whats-Going-Down-There-Questions/dp/0802775403/ref=sr_1_1/203-9220403-2639167?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1178617660&sr=1-1
They answer a lot of questions. They were recommended to me.
They cover a lot of subjects!Wendy0 -
hehe, Worried mums.
Personally, wouldnt worry. Every boy by the time they are 13 knows exactly what a penis is for and what it does. Personally, I dont see any need to go handing out books on the matter, its just part of life.
Just let him know you and his dad are there if he wants to talk about anything and leave it at that.0 -
rather than actually telling me anything, my mother bought what she thought was an appropriate book and shoved me out into the back garden with it...
i remember sitting on my swing looking at the pictures in this book and chuckling my head off.... the best mum could do was pop her head round the door every few minutes and shout "its not funny you know... read it properly"
i can still see her peeking round the door frame, thinking i couldnt see her,
then when she had enough of me laughing at the book she started to come out to the garden to fetch me because i kept holding the book up to show her what i was laughing at and she was petrified the neighbours would think i was looking at pre teen !!!!!! or something....
to the OP - go the book route if you want, (i think thats easier done if you already have the books long before they are actually 'needed') but if your son is as embarrased as you say, i think the thing to do would be to pretend you havent noticed, i wouldnt dream of saying anything to the poor lad
its a very normal part of life... so carry on as normal0 -
I don't want to offend anyone with this but it may well do! :rotfl:
Don't you give your sons any privacy?
There is nothing abnormal with waking up with a stonker but why can't you then leave them alone until it either disappears or they address the situation!
As for 'sneaking a peak'! I personally thinks it's an invasion of privacy. Yeah OK you've seen it all before but you get to an age where you don't want your mum looking at you. For you it might seem normal. For a teenage boy it is weird! :undecided
I don't buy into all this needing books either! Blokes get erections. They know what it is and they know what to do with it. Just let them get on with it. Give them space to get to know themselves.
And talking from experience, always knock on their bedroom door. It's pretty disturbing having someone walk in on you when you're cracking one off! :rolleyes:0 -
Oooh canI just clarify that I dont "sneak a peek" ( it was me that mentioned the phrase)- but if I so much look in his direction- when I am eating my own breakfast IN MY LIVING ROOM, where he chooses to get dressed of a morning- I get accused of looking- in a joking way may I add!!!
I've even recently totally rearranged his room so his bed is behind the door- to avoid unnecessary embarrassment in the future:A 17/10/07-Started Rosemary Conley :ATotal loss so far= 4 stone 7lbs!In the magazine Sept 08:T0 -
What I find quite interesting so far is that it seems women tend to adopt the book buying approach, whereas men say let them get on with it!
Now I'm not saying the men are right and the women aren't. At the end of the day you know your kids and it comes down to the individual. But, men know what it's like to be a teenage boy. The thought of my mum giving me a book on mass debating or whatever makes me shudder now! :rotfl:
You know teenage boys do it. Teenage boys know their parents know you do it. But it's an unwritten law that parents pretend they know nowt.0 -
Tell him to wear his Dressing Gown, if he doesn't want to embarass his Mum!
As far as the 'cleaning' goes - my son proudly came & told me the first time he did this! But can't remember how old he was - sorry! We've always been pretty open about bodily functions, so could've been anywhen from 7 to 17!
A:mad: :j:D:beer::eek::A:p:rotfl::cool::):(:T0 -
Ahh yes but what about teenage girls- my father went to embarrasing lengths to make sure I knew and too early- the book incident was one, there was a large bag of large Dr Whites glaring at me from the airing cupboard from the age of 9 and finally the time he invited a girl in his class(he was a teacher),her mother and sister round to show me how to use a tampon!!
Oh yes.. there was also the time when i was 10 and he took me to a party and on the way there told me not to trump in my wooly tights because the smell would linger til I got home!!
