About a year ago, every time I tried to go to the "say no" site, my browser would be hijacked by a "say yes to 0870" site, where such a money making device was advertised as being a "no cost" option.... outrageous!!

I also do. But I can confirm companies are aware of it and withdrawing their geographical numbers. It happened with IKEA and just now with BOL: there is no answer in the geographical Nº featured in "say no..."

Alliance & Leicestre have cottoned on too! Their Leeds " callers from Abroad " number is now queried by their answering agent & abruptly terminated!!!! Even if you are chasing up an error on their part which cannot be dealt with on their web.
Calls to their 0845 9262626 take at least 2 mins to go thro' the menu options & eventually their queing info tells you you will be answered in som 5, 7, 10 mins!! HORRENDOUS

Sounds like time for direct action - move banks.

If they ask why - tell 'em - or better still get a 0871 phone number and get them to call you. :D

Absolutely! Not only have they not coughed up the 2No £50's for introing a friend back in early October, they now deny that I have any travel insurance which when I opened the account was a benefit.
As their interest rate is now only 3.5% the time has come to move I think, BUT will I ever get the 50 quid if I do? Hence the need to contact direct. (I'll try again now they might be less busy!!!!!!)

Wow!!!! through to real people and problem being attended PLUS they took a return numbr incase they encountered any probs!!! Just shows you, it depends on who you get to (If at all), this young lady actually laughed at something funny I said!!!

Next it Lloyds tsb who are being awkward at coughing up their intro bonus (another £50)
With this one I had to make 6 different calls to different departments!! Makes one wonder at the end of the day is it worth it???? Ah well, to the wine for another restful night

    Cheers TonyB
PS Citibank & First Direct passed with flying colours, but why do I need 5 current accounts? ;)

Same with LloydsTSB credit card line. It really bites when you are only phoning up to get them to sort out their mistake!

    Here's one for Martin...

I hate 0870s with a PASSION - but rather than rant on about the offenders, who lets face it - don't give a stuff; why not launch a new award for the best companies who go out of their way to avoid them - a bit like the "Good English" award? It would help promote the issue - and if it received decent enough exposure might just encourage bad practicioners to tidy up their act to get on the list. Well - OK, maybe not given the amount of dosh they make - but it might help a bit :-)
