How to sign up to the Talk Talk £7 deal? UPDATED THURSDAY

  • I would advise extreme care over this deal. I attempted to buy this morning via TT's website. I Was told that I would need a new line and therefore not eligible for the £50 or £70 voucher. I still went through with the initial purchase and received a confirmation e-mail, as it was still going to be cheaper than Sky. I later phoned TT newline customer service and queried why I would need a new line when I already had one (currently Sky), he said I probably would not but that the engineer would conform this when he came out. So I then asked whether I would qualify for the voucher if I did not need a new line; he did not know and gave me the main customer service number. I rang this and asked the same; the guy told me I would need a new number (same as a new line according to TT) as they have no porting agreement with Sky. He knew nothing about any vouchers but did say that Martin Lewis had been e-mailing people with them! I told him that the £50 voucher was available via their own website, which he seemed very surprised about and queried how I had accessed TT's site as his view was different to mine!! As we had now entered a comedy situation I asked to cancel the deal and he gave me another number to ring; it was the newline number. I asked to cancel and the lady first took my postcode, then my name, then my e-mail, then my order number, then my phone number, then asked me to spell my name, but could find no trace of my order. She did appear to find another order with my name for a different address!!!! She eventually told me to ring back tomorrow to try and cancel: I said I would and I certainly will.

That's because you are presumably on a SKY LLU service, and TT can't do a direct LLU to LLU transfer. To do that you need to do a 'return to donor' back to BT for your line rental.

That's true macman, but my broadband and phone calls are with AOL. TT's live chat assured me that I don't need to do anything towards setting Essentials up(though I am cancelling BT myself to be sure that doesn't continue).

So if you are already a TT customer for calls and broadband via AOL, then I don't think you'll qualify for this offer. It's for new customers, so all you are doing is moving your line rental over to an LLU service. But give it a try anyway.

It was all a breeze yesterday, but it will take 2 weeks before it is set up. Having said that, I had huge probs with AOL when I moved house waiting for them to set up my broadband and phone so that they actually worked. I'm assuming that there won't be any such difficulty with just transferring my line to them...

The live chat person at TT said I would qualify for the offer and it so far seems to have gone through OK and I've got an email from them.

    Here's to an unknown future!:o;)

I have just come off the phone to TalkTalk, where I joined the current Essentials deal.

I asked about the £70 LovetoShop vouchers, which I then discovered are only available for online purchases of the deal.

So I said to the TalkTalk rep that I would just sign up online instead of with him. However, he insisted that if I did this, MSE would sell my phone number and email address and I would be inundated with marketing calls. According to him, they have already had a lot of complaints about this issue.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or was he, as I suspect, just trying to bluff and hang onto a sale?

And how exactly would MSE get your phone number? All that link does is click you through to TT. Nor do MSE sell on email addresses.

  • Has anyone any previous experience of TALKTALK as a provider? Have just signed with them for BB and home phone. Son tells me they are lousy, so prepared to cancel if any adverse comments. Please, anyone?
    Thanks
