Two things:
1. there are a LOT of fake cards around; the Sandisk I ordered from MemoryBits.co.uk is a fake and will be speaking to them in the morning
2. using Google Maps may be enough for some who do not want to purchase sat nav software; it can 'talk' to GPS receivers (yes, before I get pounced on, I know it doesn't do the same as proper SatNav software, but it MIGHT suffice for some). The thanks button is here to the right. How can you tell? (easily)0 -
Well, in this case, I bought two and they both have the same serial number for starters. On the back is a *sticker* saying "Made in Taiwan". One of them isn't recognised and gets hot. And finally they didn't come in retail packaging with Sandisk holograms.
There's a useful guide by a HK seller on eBay actually - google "Fake Sandisk" and you should find it.The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!

Just a couple of quick questions Im hoping someone could answer. Im sorry if they have been answered before but looking for 30 mins and didnt see
1) Can I use it as a MP3 Player?
2) Could I get hold of USA maps to use the TOMTOM application there?
3) If you use the MSN messenger, doesnt that mean you will be charged by the minute to use the net (i will be using an o2 sim)
4) I understand that ringing for a recon one would be about £20, but does anyone know where the cheapest new one on the net is. And can you use googlecheckout?
Id really appreciate it if someone could help me out with the answers.

Just a couple of quick questions Im hoping someone could answer. Im sorry if they have been answered before but looking for 30 mins and didnt see
1) Can I use it as a MP3 Player?
Yes of can - I believe there is about 60mb of memory on the phone, but you can buy additional MicroSD cards. This is then installed in the phone next to where the sim card goes.
I have found that if you encode your music CD's to WMA with the 64kps setting the sound quality is no different and the size of the files is much less than mp3, a album can be about 30mb in wma format where as 60mb in mp3 format.
2) Could I get hold of USA maps to use the TOMTOM application there?
yes you can use USA maps you will need to get a copy of the maps and place them in the same area you placed TOMTOM mobile. Tomtom should then pick up the new map or give you a choice of map if you have 2 installed
3) If you use the MSN messenger, doesnt that mean you will be charged by the minute to use the net (i will be using an o2 sim)
I believe the MSN on the lobby, uses the GPRS to connect so yes you will be charged. You will need to set the GRPS setting to use your O2 account

I am not sure about otehr sites buy virgin does not use googlecheckout.
Id really appreciate it if someone could help me out with the answers.

Just ordered the phone. Interestingly I was eligable for a £10 off upgrade being an existing virgin customer. So when I viewed all phones it was listed as £39-99 but when I added it to my basket I could then use my upgrade to get it for £29-99 +pp.
^^^^ Just realised that got the above 39-99 price as it will be sim-free.
I've seen a "TomTom mobile 5 series 80 GPS naviagation Bluetooth" kit going for 45 quid from TotalPDA. Not sure whether its a bargain and whether there are other series versions I should consider or whether I should just get the various bits and bobs separately.

was the reconditioned phone 19.99 without the sim or with sim ?0
-
thanks for answering my questions in the couple of posts back.
Just one more question
I just called and they dont have any reconditioned ones left. So what discount codes/sites can I use to get it cheaper than £49.99. I have a spare virgin sim card at home if that helps.
An answer would be appreciated, cheers0 -

I'm sure that if you ring and tell them you were quoted £39.00 they will send you one. You might get a SIM thrown in too.
