I have found the site I got the google map from.

    http://www.smartphone-freeware.com/download-mobile-gmaps-smartphone-viewer-for-google-yahoo-and-windows-live-maps.html

With the google map you can locate postcodes and get directions. The downside is that it connects to GPRS to get the maps etc. but the maps are very good. There is also a option to look at the satelite image of a postcode but this eats up a lot of credit on your phone as those images are big.

I am interested in where to get the TomTom as everywhere I looked you have to say which device you have and the lobster isn't listed.

    It looks very interesting.

Will try it tomorrow. anyone else fancy trying let us know how you get on.

This is APPLICATION unlock not phone unlock i.e. allows you to install software that's not digitally signed.

If you want it to be a sat-nav then yes you do else it has no way of knowing where you are.

You need to have the TomTom software installed in the phone, and you also need a bluetooth enabled GPS reciever (try ebay @ c£30) sine the lobster has no innate 'sat-nav' capability built into it.

Some of the more recent GPS recievers are the size of a 'matchbox' (read swan vestas) and can quite happily sit in your car's glovebox (or your coat's pocket!) whilst relaying data to the phone.

So shop around and have fun!!

So not taking credit, but those asking about SatNav may find this of use.

Very good quality Bluetooth GPS had one myself for sometime and they are indestructible, and you Gat SATNAV Software and maps on Memory Card (Bit out of date and does not work with the Lobster), but I would imagine you could sell those on Ebay to cover the £17 cost of the GPS Receiver (THese were £200+ when the came out)

I have TomTom 5 installed on mine (Worked fine once the App unlock software was run), and it connects fine to the BLuetooth GPS listed here

I have a 910 in the car so will not be using the phone for navigation, but its a good standby and for someone without SatNav a really cheap introduction to the system.

My phone just arrived - I am very impressed. Round here, DVBTV reception isn't great. However, the phone has picked up and is showing 5 tv channels. Now to fiddle with it and see what it does.

Does anyone know what's special about the earphones that come with it that make it an aerial where other earphones don't act as an aerial? And if so, what do I look out for in replacement earphones?

As I said in a previous post I bought this to use in my car with an FM transmitter. The transmitter has a 3.5mm plug, the lobster a 2.5mm plug. The Lobster also needs earphones plugged in to act as the aerial (i.e. it needs two things plugged into it, the transmitter and earphones).

So I bought a 2.5mm-->3.5mm adaptor and 3.5mm splitter from Maplins yesterday but any other earphones I tried gave it no signal. Only the original earphones, and some that came with my wife's phone gave a signal.

Any ideas where I can get replacement earphones (or just an aerial lead) with a 3.5mm plug that I can be sure will act as a DAB aerial?

BTW, as others have said the DAB reception is excellent, even on the move.

What is so special about those earphones is that they have the aerial built into the wire. You can't just use the normal signal wires as the aerial as well because you're pumping sound down them.

Given this, trying to use any normal earphones in this way with or without an adaptor will not be fruitful. Unfortunately it's always the problem with these things that they require customised accessories to work properly because it's performing a dual function. I'd ask Virgin though... they did offer me 'accessories' when I bought the phone and since they 'refurbish' them they must have a spares department or source.

Can you tell me where you downloaded it from and how did you install it?
It doesn't go into the mdlet folder I presume?

You should be able to use any application for Windows Mobile 2005 on this phone that doesn't depend on specific features. However, as mentioned elsewhere, you might well have to follow the steps to do an APPLICATION UNLOCK so you can download/install 'unsigned' programs (or ones that the phone is unhappy to accept as it comes out of the box).

Check out http://mobile.google.co.uk for google apps.
