Meal plan inspiration: Recipes for supersix
Comments
-
Back to my supersix based meal plan this week and thought I would add this recipe:
http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/587986
We'll be having it as a main. Asparagus and radishes were both reasonably priced this week and we'll use the spinach and walnuts in other recipes. Not the cheapest, but I struggled to find warm potato salad recipes that were enough to be a main but didn't use bacon (we're trying to eat less bacon!)0 -
Now that we've moved house (this has been a very eventful term for us!) I'm back on supersix based meal plants. I'm pleased that the supersix now changes on a Thursday, as we always shop on Sundays and it means I won't have to guess anymore.
Today, there is kiwi, funsize bananas, rhubarb, oranges, mushrooms and tomatoes. As far as mushrooms go, I won't touch the things.
However, I think some bananas can be bought and put aside for a banana bread next weekend when they're soft. Also planning to get some rhubarb as I've never cooked it before. Thinking of a crumble. Since Aubergines have been reasonable, and I've got courgettes in the fridge, I'm thinking I'll use the tomatoes in a ratatouille.0 -
Or, this recipe uses both Rhubarb and oranges to go with Salmon.

Just finding this thread, thanks!
You can make a yummy banana icecream by slicing them and freezing them. Once frozen whizz them up in a blender, they go bitty to begin with but keep going and they go creamy and just like soft scoop.Debt at LBM [strike]£17,544[/strike] £5700:TOver £14,000 PAID OFF :T

just wanted to put up a few more ideas...
Mrs.Lurcherwalker suggested that rhubharb can be used similarly to apples and served with pork. Pork is one of the top two meat offers, so could be an idea for someone, although our budget won't stretch to the pork this time.
We'll be having a tomato soup--again I'll be using tinned rather than the fresh since it will be both cheaper and easier--but an idea.
Finally, a veggie chilli involving mushrooms and tomatoes could be a thought.
I'm hoping next week's selection is a bit easier--I enjoy the challenge sometimes but could do with some easy inspiration next week!0 -
A few ideas for the new supersix, which are:
snack pack of grapes
Garlic
Iceberg Lettuce
Cucumber
Cherry Tomatoes
Jersey Royal Potatoes
Lentil Salad with feta and grapes:

I'll probably make this with a few substitutions for things I have, i.e. I don't keep pistachios so will use something else.
I'll probably do several cucumber salads with different vinegars, oils, herbs and spices. They keep well in the fridge.
Roasted garlic would make a nice addition to a salad using the iceberg, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and whatever other veg you wanted to include.
Finally, this website has all sorts of potato inspiration if you wanted to try something new:
http://www.lovepotatoes.co.uk/recipes/list/top-25
And this website has recipes specific to Jersey Royals:
http://www.jerseyroyals.co.uk/recipes.aspx
I've used several of the recipes for the first and they've been nice.
Hope this helps someone!0 -
More foodie websites:pI mean that in a good way...;)I'll never ever eat or use all that I have access to. I probably could eat a different meal daily for the rest of my life. I have general recipe sites but like the potato specific websites I have one for mushrooms and the other day I found a great one for peas..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Thanks...I thought of investing in an ice cream maker but for a person alone? No...and having to put the bowl in a freezer that isn't practicle. So bought works for me. Or as I have a blender...:)
Then again there are recipes(by Mary Berry)over on the BBC website where she makes homemade ice cream and no gadget is required and I think it is ready within two hours."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Glad you like them, Pops! I find sites devoted to one particular food really helpful for meal planning. I have an ice cream recipe that doesn't require an ice cream maker--just condensed milk, whipped cream, soured cream and flavouring if I remember correctly. Let me know if you want it and I'll look it up for you. It is lush with berries in!0

I thought I would share one of my favorite websites. I always use the website Eat your books, when searching for recipes
It has indexed 105.000 online recipes from blogs and magazines along with recipes from Cook books:
