Right--I need to get myself in gear for the shop tomorrow.

This is an idea we won't be using as we don't have chicken and it won't fit the budget this week, however it looks tasty, fairly easy and uses apples in a main meal:
    CHICKEN WITH CARAMELIZED ONIONS AND
    APPLE

This has a pineapple salsa recipe that looks nice: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/fishgoujonswithpinea_76389

For those of you lucky enough to have duck in the freezer, this plum sauce looks nice:

If you're thinking of going for the pork joint on offer, this recipe might be nicely adaptable to a slow cooked joint:

I will probably try this but with sweet potato mash as we have some that need using and we have some sausages in the freezer that have been there for who knows how long (apologies, the site has annoying adverts, just give it a few seconds and the advert will disappear):

I will admit, coming up with dinner recipes for the fruit is a challenge. Of course, those of you who like it could also do HM Hawaiian pizza, mango chutney etc. I'll be back tomorrow to post my final menu for the week, but we'll likely eat quite a bit from the freezer.

A French-style way of serving leeks - thinly slice leeks, wash then cook 5 minutes in very little water till soft. Drain, toss with salt, black pepper, a lump of butter then stir in a few chopped prunes (dried or tinned) and reheat till hot. Sounds queer but goes nicely with a roast dinner.

Another one which sounds strange is sliced leeks and sliced mushrooms cooked gently and once almost ready stir through some creme fraische (sp?). It's absolutely delicious.

    i will make

    bacon and leek bake

I have bacon but will need to buy a sachet of cheese sauce (or could make my own actually) but aldi have this one for 33p.

    http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/product_range/best_of_scotland_buys_19491.htm

Chop up bacon and fry with leeks (and onions if wanted)
    Meanwhile parboil new potatoes
Slice the new potatoes when ready
Put the bacon, leeks, onions in layers with the potato slices
Pour over a bit of stock to half-cover the veg
Make up the cheese sauce sachet and pour over
Oven for half an hour or so not too hot
Then grill for a bit to get the cheese to brown
Serve with broccoli or actually you could put broccoli among it if you boil in with the spuds.. and serve with carrots.
    HURRAH!
If you have any chicken it's lovely with chicken too, mushrooms also go well if you have them.

PARNIPS - Spicy parsnip soup, roasted parsnips, parsnip crisps, Parsnips pureed then mixed with some cream & butter and lots of pepper served in mini Yorkshire puddings is lovely.

Parsnip and potato rosti. - cook for about 10 mins some potatoes and parsnips (need to still be firm) then grate when cool enough to handle them and mix with 1 small onion that has been fried off, add seasoning . Pat into rounds and fry for about 10-12 mins turning a couple of times. They can fall apart but once formed into rounds leaving them in the fridge for around an hour helps.

LEEKS - This looks lovely and is on my to do list soon -http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1365/potato-and-leek-gratin

Leek risotto. Leek & potato soup. Jacket potatoes scooped out then fill with a cheesy leek mixture nice served with thick slice of ham.
    http://www.channel4.com/4food/recipes/vegetarian/leek-red-onion-and-thyme-puff-pastry-tart-recipe

NEW POTATOES - Fry off some chorizo sausage cut into small chunks and add 1 chopped red onion fry. Now remove the chorizo and onion but keep the oil that has been released and add to it some cooked and cubed new potatoes. Coat well with the oil add some halved cherry tomatoes and either some flaked cooked mackerel or smoked cod/haddock or some crispy cooked bacon. Serve with salad leaves.http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/jul/19/white-crab-potato-salad-recipe have done this and its lovely. I used a tin of crab meat.

BROCCOLI - broccoli quiche, broccoli and thinly sliced beef stir fry,
http://www.the-girl-who-ate-everything.com/2010/09/chicken-broccoli-alfredo.html - I used grated cheddar cheese as had no parmesan. Really nice recipe.

BROWN ONIONS - Make a quiche as normal and add some cooked shredded chicken or pork, some caramelised onions and some sweet corn. Top with grated cheese and cook.

CARROTS - Carrot cake, roasted carrots, carrot and swede mash.
