How did everyone's lo's get into sleep/nap routines? Is it something you implemented or did they naturally fall into their own routine? I know Oliver is too young for set nap and sleep times, but just curious at what age others started.

In our case she fell into her own routine and we just went along with that. The one for naps has changed over time - e.g. we had several weeks (in fact, it was months) early on when she'd always have a 2-3 hour long afternoon nap, but that doesn't happen anymore. The one thing we did do was introduce a sleep cue (in our case Ewan the sheep - after a while she started yawning when she heard it!) that we used for naps as well as bedtime. This was useful for when we knew she needed a nap (yawning and rubbing eyes) but she hadn't quite realised it herself. And we started a bedtime routine when she was a couple of weeks old - we didn't stick to a set bedtime at that age, but we did the same things every evening to help her understand that it was bedtime: bath, massage, bottle in dimly lit room. We no longer do massage as she won't lie still, but instead we do a story and also tidy away the toys and her playmat together. Bath & bottle have remained constant, and then we've tweaked the rest as time has gone on.

I know some people on here have found baby apps useful - you can add things like sleep and feeds and it helps you see if there's a pattern that might become a routine.

    Hi
Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely weather. :)
We have been out with friends today to the country park so that was nice. I've also been super busy with ds2 as he starts junior school in September so the school are trying to get him used to the change early which seems to be working well. I'm off to ikea tomorrow as DP has the day off, hoping to pick up a storage unit and rug for Noah's bedroom.

Really enjoying the boy at the moment. Lots of fun in the sunshine (although grass freaks him out :D). We've cut the night feedings down to two, and given that the first of those is around ten he only actually wakes me up once a night. A vast improvement on a few months ago when he was waking six or more times a night :T

And his new trick is clapping. He's been clapping for a while but he now does it on command. And he says 'dad' too. So cute!

I'd have met you there for coffee and a chat, but the OH is off tomorrow so we've got a day out planned. Have you got a date through for Noah's referral yet?

Gorgeous weather down on the sunny south coast, isn't it. :D

Thanks for that, morocha. I really take comfort from it, not least because Freddie's nowhere near sleeping through the night at the moment and it makes me realise that I'm not alone, but also because I've never really felt comfortable with just leaving him to cry so it's useful to hear that there might be better ways.

I always thought I was immune to all the 'advice' out there (i.e. stuff that just makes you think you're a bad parent) and at first it washed over me. But as Freddie's got older I find myself listening to people saying 'your baby should be doing *this* or *that*' or that I shouldn't still be feeding him myself or whatever.

It just makes you feel miserable and all it does it undermine your own confidence to parent your baby the way that works for you and him (her). At my post-natal pilates class we're talking about having a ritual burning of all our 'how to bring your baby up' books because they just make us feel useless :D

We have been very lucky with the weather :D

I have a dr's appointment next Wednesday as the health visitor can't refer him directly. I will then have to wait for an appointment through the post to see the paediatrician.

He doesn't take any notice of things I try to reach him so therefor doesn't clap, wave, talk etc. we went to my friends yesterday who has a little boy who will be 1 in June, I haven't seen her for about 3 months and she couldn't believe how quiet Noah is. :( her little one is making all sorts of noises. I'm hoping Its just down to laziness.
