He he, is it time to start the countdown again!? Of course it is!!! In that case, let me check my diary... 26 days for me today. I get paid on Wed 28th Oct.

It is so good to see the account in credit! I am going to do my best to be really good this month.

Lodgers can be quite annoying, but like you say, they are a means to an end, and I can't tell you enough how much better I feel knowing that I'm getting on top of things, for the first time in 4 years! Not sinking further, but actually digging myself out! I couldn't do it without the additional income. When that's all cleared, I can then relax a bit, though no doubt a new challenge will arise ;)

Mortgage advisor will hopefully be a start to saving properly, a low mortgage will mean an extra £140 a month to save or throw at the debt. It will be a good thing to do, even if only psychologically, because obviously the mortgage debt is still a debt and will be paid slower

It's only 22 days until your payday now:T

You should be proud of yourself for tackling your debt, we all should be. It's a good feeling to be getting out, or trying to get out of it, doing anything we can to get there. Sacrificing your home to lodgers is a great way to get there. How long would it have taken you otherwise? Scary thoughts!

My mortgage fix ends next April and I've had a quick look around about new deals and I reckon I'll have more options as my LTV will be better. Can't wait to get that sorted and on to a new deal, more cash to throw at the debt. Sometimes I wish I'd stayed in my first flat, my mortgage was only £200 per month and would be finished in 2025. But maybe if I'd discovered MSE years ago I could have been overpaying and mortgage free now! :o

My studying has started now, fully, and I need to get myself motivated for it all. First today, a trip to the coffee shop with L1, and hopefully a fab chat. Then meeting an old friend in town and then a date with the FB messenger guy. Hopefully that will be a good evening.
Tomorrow - and feel free to slap my wrists! - I'm going for a long walk in the countryside with my ex. I hope it's not a decision I will regret. Long and complicated reasons which boil down to us being unable to stay away from each other, while being quite toxic to each other.
I hope I will be in control of all this, this time. I'm dating and taking it seriously. Eeek. I know it all sounds weak. Moving on.

    *slaps wrist* ;)

Yay to the studying though, hope you're enjoying it all.

Whoa. Spendy day yesterday!! Bought a dress and went out for 3 drinks. It all adds up! It's not terrible, but hey ho.
Went on a date with the FB friend. Hmmm. Him and his ex broke up because she was an engineer and earned 75k and he probably earns half that. She didn't like it. Nothing he could do about it. But I think he got a little bit knocked about. Mental note I was making to myself was Not to (Ever) go into this sort of detail on a first date. Or second! Light and breezy is definitely better!! Vulnerability is fine, but it needs to come last. I appreciate depth in people, but this was too personal too soon. That's not how attraction is created.
I think I'll see him again at some point, and it will be nice I'm sure.

This Wednesday I am seeing the social worker, as had been arranged. He at least seems to be reliable. Oh my dear me. The search continues.

Meanwhile the ex and I are going on a day trip.

Well you need clothes and you need hydration so they sound like necessary spends to me :rotfl:

Haha the search continues. That sounds like what they say at the end of The Apprentice. :rotfl: Maybe you should set your potential boyfriends little tasks to see how they perform and eliminate one each week? I'd watch that if it were on telly :p

  • Hello hello

Just a quickie. Hope you are ok and thanks for popping in and reading or posting.

I had news of possible huge (50%) staffing reductions in my department! I am so glad I've got myself under control debt wise now. Panicked a little yesterday and woke up 3am, but I'll have a look at my cv with someone who's good at writing tonight and at the weekend. Maybe this is the impetus I need.

I'll come back in a couple of days when I have digested the news a little bit.

Mortgage appointment tomorrow, and that will result in monthly payments of £450 and not £590, so that can go towards my savings too. It's all good really :)

Oh no, I'm sorry to read that Catriona. Big hugs to you. But I'm so glad to read there are some positives and like you say, you're debt busting, your mortgages payments are going to go down, you've got the lodger income and you're studying. Maybe it's a opportunity? Maybe it won't come to that? Who knows. But it does sound like a good plan to get your CV together.

Wishing you the best. Chat soon lovely xx

Thanks Ena, for your words of support. Let's hope it will be ok! If not, I will manage. It's good to have that added focus. I'm sure I wouldn't stress as much if I had £20k saved up! But you've got to start somewhere.

If I lost my job, I'd then be at home for a little bit while I am looking for a new one, so that's something to look forward to! A holiday! ;) and that's not a bad thing.

  • My mortgage has been approved by the bank, and is now with the conveyancers.

    So that's good news.

All I have to do is get a solicitor to verify my ID now and it's all going to go off to the law firm. They do it online which is a cool thing. Much easier. Looking forward to the monthly payment reducing!
