Annoying (pregnant) friend

I don't really get the baby shower idea, and certainly not this bizarre 'let's announce the sex of our baby by cutting into a pink or blue cake party' that's becoming more popular (imported from the States of course). In my mind there are only two people who have to be excited about a baby - its parents.
But to not grit your teeth and just let your mate get on with it for a while seems a little churlish. Friendships are tested sometimes, people don't always behave exactly how we'd like them to. Can't you cut her a little bit of slack for a while?
Yes, I really want to continue our friendship. She is a fab friend and would hate to lose her.0 -
This isn't just about her pregnancy, it's about how you feel about her generally & the pregnancy has tipped the balance.
Yawn yawn YAWN! I knew someone from the judgemental massive would come wading in to this eventually!
So just because she's getting a bit fed up of her friend talking about the same thing ALL the time, you've decided that it means she doesn't like her, full stop? Even though you don't know either of them? Get a grip and stop being so daft!0 -
I've got to admit when I was pg with my second I was a total pregnancy bore
(with my first I didn't find out I was expecting until I was almost 6 months gone and moved to the other side of the country so had no one other than the dad and his family to talk to)
I'd had a miscarriage a few months earlier so talking about my pregnancy almost constantly was a kind of reassurance especially before my 12 week scan. My mates turned it into a joke rolled their eyes took the mick out of me which helped us all I suppose.
Maybe gently joking might be a way to handle her OTT'nes ?0 -

Wait a minute!
If you had bothered your bum to read all the OP's posts on this thread you would have noticed her saying how self absorbed her friend is & how they never talk about the Op's life.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -

That doesn't mean she doesn't like her... just that she is annoyed by the singularity of conversation topic.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -

I didn't say she doesn't like her but she seems tired of being talked at over lots of things & the pregnancy seems to have tipped the balance.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -

From post 10.
I'm sorry - I still don't see it. She likes this person a lot, still wants to be friends but is annoyed that she has a one-track mind.
Similarly I adore my friends but when they talk about babies constantly I get extremely bored. I have nothing to contribute to the conversation as I don't have and don't want babies.
Yes, there is one in particular that I have distanced myself from but then even the other mums get bored with talking about babies with her.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry.
