Hi there. :hello: I was wondering if I could join this thread?! Have stopped smoking, but have always tried to do it on my own in the past without support. Need like minded people to understand what an uphill struggle it can be at times, and you lot look look fun as well as non judgemental. :A

    Thanks TNG....
Last techie question..... How do I lift a quote from someone else's message.. Would be really useful to know...

Weekend name? Nah.... That's much more 'exotic'......... :shhh:

    Moi

highlight the text you want - copy (ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) it in to your reply, highlight it again, then click on the thing that looks like a speech bubble above the reply box. Alternatively, put [ QUOTE ] before the text and [ /QUOTE ] after the bit of text (without the spaces)

    HTH

OOOOh - two more!!! Welcome Geenie and addictedtolush :hello:

If you get a moment, read through jo's first post and check out some of the links. People find them really useful. We're quite a friendly bunch (most of the time ;)) and are DEFINITELY not judgemental. :) Just don't mention weight gain ;) :rotfl:

    Evening all :D

Melbury, this will pass hunny, your body is still trying to adjust to not smoking, you were smoking a lot longer than 2 weeks so you've got to expect your body to take a while to get used to it. In the meantime, your body is repairing itself :D Keep strong and keep posting! :)

TNG, stop being rude to our posters :naughty::p :rotfl:

Mary, welcome to the thread  you are doing great :) Keep on posting and giving us updates :), oh and ignore TNG :D

SB, how you doing hunny? x

Boatie_Bird, you are doing fantastic, looking forward to getting to know you :)

JoeHel, Basilcat, Oops, IDA, Cath, BrickingIt, NYK and whoever else I've bound to have missed :o HOW WE DOING??!! :D:D:D

flag006.gif Hello, I'm still flying the flag for non-smokers in this house. Not touched one, not missed one, it's a dawdle, really, once you break the habit of lighting up when the phone rings or your coffee mug is full
I am marking up every day that passes - that's 10 full days. I'd normally be on to my third pack by now.

Hope everyone else is doing well. If you are getting withdrawal symptoms, perhaps a distraction of some sort would work? Like I said, even if it is something really silly, anything to replace the act of smoking should soon form a new habit. Just try to make sure it's a socially acceptable one - like polishing your letter box or folding origami objects from biscuit papers :rotfl:
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

    Yo Addictedto and Geenie!

Welcome on board and HUGE WELL DONES!!!!!!!:T

Yes, this board is fun and very supportive… so much so, I’m getting nothing else done today but that’s OK too!! If you glance through pages 183 / 185 you’ll catch up with some of the current banter, ups and downs n other stuff….. And get great useful info and links too.

Adds, I haven’t been a constant quitter and only tried a few times over the last 44 years as a smoker. Your mail reminded me of my first few attempts…… You are NOT going mad and IT DOES GET BETTER!

I smiled at your ‘searching for cigs’ behaviour…. Some years ago, I took my lovely dad (now dead) out for a drive ‘cos he and my mother were squabbling…. We had only driven round the corner when he drew my attention to the fact that he had instinctively picked up my packet of cigs from the dashboard… Dad had quit 30 years before!!

I guess most of these behaviours are rooted in our ‘loss’ even though we don’t want the darned things (Dad had been a ‘born again non-smoker’ for decades before this incident…. ) “Yearning and Searching” are well established early reactions to ‘loss’ situations. You are sane and your behaviour proves your humanity!

I’ve found in the past that the ‘mental addiction’ requires different support than the physical aspects: info about what is/ isn’t going on in your body now you’ve given up; reframing how you view your relationship with cigs; understanding your reactions and normalising them through talking to others (like what we are doing now); reviewing yourself as a non-smoker;. The latter takes much longer but I am sure it will come…. For you, for me.:j

I gave up in September 06 but after six months, began to have the odd cig every now and again… The (slow) death of a close relative provided an ‘excuse’ to start again last September but strangely I found that I felt more like a non-smoker when I was doing it then than I had earlier in the year….

It has been a bit of a struggle this time but nothing like in the past and I think my heart has started to accept that I am now beginning to CHOOSE not to smoke.

Oh fe’ Gawds sake stop pontificating!!! I’ll shut up now but do keep up the good work… You are through the worst part already….:o

    Huge Hugs

    Saving of over £30 already
Not killing myself- and paying for it !
